DATE ACQUIRED 1. Since the end of May 1955, the staff of Object 96 I has been reduced by about 100 workers. Of those who were no longer needed, the sludge pressers have been transferred to Object 96 II at Freital and some other workers to Thuringia; the remainder have been dismissed. 2. The reduction in staff in the plant has been instituted since Zeche IIIa began to operate. Formerly, two men attended two presses in Zeche III (i.e., 90 men for 90 filter presses); each sludge presser now looks after from two to three filter presses. In concentrate presses in Zeche III, a team of two pressers now attends from 7 to 9 filter presses, 3. ec IIIa is manned entirely by Russians; other workers in the plant have no general access to it. Since Zeche Me began operating, the concentrate pressing process now sometimes takes 25 ? 40 minutes instead of the average 4 to 4+ hours. On these occasions, in the opinion of concentrate filter press operators, the material coming to the concentrate presses is of inferior quality to that which takes a longer time to filter. The difference in filtrate time arises when the output from Zeche IIIa exceeds the capacity of the mixing vats and settling vats into which it normally flows; the output from Zeche IIIa is then led directly into the precipitation vats. 4. From 19 April to 2 May, the, concentrate filter presses in Zeche III completed 1,241 filtrations; each filtration was made up of an average of 3.2 cu.m. of material. From 2 to,13 Y Y9: 854 filtrations of an average of 2.9 cu.m. of material were completeda Ih he latter period, the material was of normal quality but dense and thee required longer filtration times. SuDD1Y of Ore 5. Ore from Gera arrives in Fri tW' ,, by rail and is transnorted from there to the factory in trucks driven"1y Russians. the loading process is mechanized. REPORT DATE DISTR. NO.
