In Kreis Sonneberg Thuringia, on the road from Steinach to Haselbach, there is
a large slate quarry. For approximately six weeks, about 300 laborers have
been working at this site. The broken slates which is ground to meal, is said to
receive an admixture of a poisonous substance. As a result, the air is perme-
ated with an odor resembling that of caraway. This poisonous substance is said
to be delivered by the Schering Fabrik fuer Chemi.sche Erzeugnisse, East Berlin. 25X1
2. After the poisonous substance has been added to the slate meal, this is poured
into piper sacks and loaded onto railroad cars which leave immediately.
Five to six carloads leave the site daily. The shipments are said to go to
Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR (formerly East Prussia), where the shipments are
said to be further processed in an unidentified plant. The shipments are
accompanied by members of the SSD and by Sbri.t military persoxxel,
