Prior to 1100 on 27 Lay 19559 there was no'airLctivity at Stsndal airfield. 25X1 Twenty-six -Il-1Cs were parr-ed in two lines about 200 meters southeast of the hangars in the northeastern corner of the field. 1 2. The AA gun emplacement north of Neues Lager9 about 500 meters east of .the road leading to Stendal - Borstel9 was equipped with 4 x 37-mm model 1 c-39 AA guns. 3. The followin air activity and aircraft were observed at Stendal airfield betwe.in 27 ie:ay and 9 June 1955$ 27 Nay and 4 June. There was intensive air activity by Il-10se which flew individually or in elements of two. June.. Twenty-eight Il-10s were parked in two line :rith their noses opposite each other in the northeastern corner of the field. 4. Neues Lager was apparently evacuated during the period under observation. No soldiers or sentries were seen and the gate at the road was closed. There were rumors iniicating that the installation has been evacuated because of a scheduled occupation by the IVY'. 2 5. The AA gun emplacement northeast of Ideues Lager was unusually silent. Two guns, presumably 20-mm AA guns, were observed. 2 One Fishnet-type radar set was seen in the immediate of the Ah gun emplacement. 6. On 9 June 19559 two trucks coming from the direction of Stendal entered the airfield. One NCO and about 1C FM ?'vrith red-bordered black epaulets were observed carrying cable reels. 7. On 9 June 19559 there was no air activity at the field. About 30 I1=1Os 25X1 were seen parked in the northeastern corner of the field. Some of the 1 grey painted aircraft had blue tactical signs on the upper fourth of rudder. 8. The Neues Lager was only lightly occupied. 2 9. The AA bun emplacement northeast of Neues Lager was occupied, and 20-mm AA guns were observed. Sedan as seen moving from the airfield in the direction of 25X1 Stendra 11. The following air activity and aircraft were observeds 25X1 4 June, Between 0800 and 1230, 1,1 I1a10s practiced individual flying at the field. 25X1 10 June. Between 0700 and 10009 11 I1=10s practiced individual flyin at the 25X1 field while fly ntg in elements of two was practiced between 1000 and noon. The stars on the aircraft had a white border. Light-blue markings were seen on the rear upper edge of the rudders and on the fuselages. 2 12. At about noon on 4 June 19559 no soldiers or sentries were observed at Neues Lager or at the gates. The board fences, about, 2 meters highs, surrounding Neues Lager was partly destroyed at the northern and eastern sides. Previously, soldiers -':ere often seen moving between Neues Lager and the AA man emplacement northeast of the camp. 2 13. At about 1600 on 3 June, a single-mast radio station with to small wooden houses was observed. 1 km,west of the Jarchau stopping place north-northeast of Stendal. A telephone circuit led via wooden masts from the radio station to the civil telephone circuit in Stendal. About 10 soldiers wearing black- bordered blue epaulets were observed at the radio station, 3 3. Comment. Stendal airfield is still occupied by a ground' ~attackmgiment9 25X1 .9h ch is probably equipped with 30 Il 10s. 25X1 previously stata e at eues agers, was ransferred from Stendal - .3orstel to Oranienburg and arrived at the Sachsenhausen camp near Oranienburg on 2,x/30 M ty 1955. This unit was assigned for defense of the airfield which is occupied by Il-28s. In this connection the reported 2C-mm AA guns instead of thc> previous 37-mm AA guns is credible. reported in December 1952. This installation probably is an approach beacon.
