1. The casernes along the route from Selimbar to the southeast end of the
village of Sibiu, which previously housed the Cavalry Instruction Center,
are now occupied by a school of officer candidates. The students number
about 2,000 and the course of study lasts for two years. A part of each
caserne still contains a riding school and when a competitive horse event
takes place, the riders leave their quarters to participate.
2. The old officers' infantry school, which from 1910 until 1916 housed the
Faculty of Medicine now in Cluj, is presently occupied by a new military
school. This school is located in the southwest of Sibiu along the west
side of the road leading to Poplaca and not far from the main cemetery
to the north of-the forest of Dmabrava. The 400 students, non-caeissioned
and commissioned officers, wear black epaulets with two intersecting
metallic ribbons. In 1952-1953, an impressive gymnasium was built on the
school's grounds. It is located about 100 meters to the west of the fork
in the. road leading. to the main cemetery.
3. The ground located to the east of the main cemetery, between the road
from Poplaca to Selimbar, is banned to the public at least twice a week
because of the combat and firing exercises in which the students of the
two schools engage.
