the following naval vessels were in Tsingtao:
a. At 0700 hours four small Chinese Comounist gunboats were outside the port
of Tsingtao. Hach was about 500 tons and counted one gun on the bow and
three machine guns on the stern.
b . During the morning two Chinese Communist submarines were 25X1
about five miles from the Tsingtao Harbor entrance. Both Carrie one machine
gun on the fiddle section and two smaller ones on the conning tower.
c. Two submarines similar to those in sub paragraph b, and one slightly smaller
submarine were at the ine-berthina pier in Tsingtao. The smaller
submarine was about 1,000 tons. 25X1

heard 500 to 600 feet away. Black smoke with occasional white gusts poured
steadily from the funnels. There was a red five pointed star near the anchor
hole. One of the ships was anchored in the naval anchorage; the other two

2. Each of the warehouses at the No. 2 Pier was used for flour storage, and trucks
frequently delivered sacks of flour there
3. A concentration of two-story warehouses built of rock and gravel was near the
Chungshan (0022/1+72) Road on the Laichou (4610/3166) Road in Tsingtao. A rail-
road spur services these warehouses. They have small, rectangular windows on
