1. Between the fall of 1951 and the fall of 1953, single-jet and twin-jet
aircraft were observed over Debrecen (4731 N! 2139 E). The single-jet
aircraft generally flew individually, while the twin-jet aircraft mostly
flew in formations of four staggered to the side. During the summer of 1953,
Soviet soldiers were repeatedly seen at the field. During the period under
review, the airfield was allegedly occupied only by Soviet troops. 1
2. Toekoel (4721 N/ 1859 E) airfield extended to the south to as far as 700 to
800 meters from the northern edge of Toekoel Community. The western edge of
the field bordered on a strip of meadow which was adjacent to the western
arm of the Danube River. A spur track branched off from the Budapest-Rackeve
railroad line and extended to the field. 2
A hangar, which was allegedly used by a Hungarian Air Force unit/ was located
in the eastern section of the field. Workshops for carpenters, locksmiths,
and electricians were available in the western section.
Two fuel dumps with fuel containers which were about, the size of railroad
tank cars were available at the field. The southern dump was surrounded by a
barbed wire fence at the end of the spur track and the other dump was located
in the northern section of the field next to a railroad line. The number of
fuel conaairiers in the northern dump was estimated at 8 to 10, while the
number in the southern dump was not determined.
Approximately in the middle between the two fuel dumps were 4 buildings which
housed a motor vehicle repair shop, garages and the sentries of the garages.
Four radio trucks arranged in a N-S line were observed east of the spur track
in the southern section of the field. The two radio trucks in the middle
were parked in an embankment which was open to the west. These 2 vehicles
and the oan parked south of them were old ZIS-type radio trucks with a green
paint. The radio truck parked north of the embankment had a black-white chequered
paint. Two antenna masts were next to this vehicle.

3. The field was guarded by Soviet sentries. Mostly Soviet personnel were
stationed there. About 50 to 60 twin-jet aircraft were parked on the
dispersal area in the northern section of the field, east of the garages
and fuel dump. About 20 single-jet aircraft, allegedly MiG-15s, were seen
in the southern section, east of the spur track and north of the radio
trucks. Furthermore, about 15 single-engine aircraft were parked at the field.
The latter aircraft allegedly were single-engine Yak-9 fighters of a
Hungarian Air Force unit stationed at the field. The jet aircraft belonged to
a Soviet Air Force unit. During a 3-day stay at the field, only Soviet
soldiers and no Hungarian soldiers were seen. On these three days, there was
air activity only by twin-jet aircraft which took off individually, made
individual local flights. Most of the aircraft headed toward the south
and returned individually. 3
Comment. The Information on the aircraft in the Debrecen air space
agree with previous reports covering the same period.
Comment. This information has previously been confirmed.
Comment. Some of the statements have been confirmed. An occupation 25X1
o oekoel airfield by twin-jet aircraft is known. The reported number,of
50 to 60, however, is overrated. One Soviet bomber regiment equipped with
Il-28s is stationed at the field. A Hungarian air unit and single-jet aircraft
were previously reported 25X1
Since only vague statements have been rec ived from this area, the correctness
of the present report cannot be verified. 25X1
