In October 1953, a large barracks installation which was occupied to 25X1 capacity by Polish soldiers who wore khaki uniforms was observed in the southwestern sector of Warsaw on the west side of Al. Zwirki in vVijury and just north of Okeyie airfield. It consisted of buildings which were newly constructed in 1951 or 1952. In October 1953, those buildings which fronted on the street were still not stuccoed. The installation was aaeessible through three gates on A. Zwirki in .Vigury. A two-story `uard- houce was located at each gate. At night, two four-story apartment houses which were occupied by the dependents of soldiers were observed along the alreet. Garages were arranged in a long line on the south side of the iastL_11etion.. The barracks area included a theater which had a capacity of about 1,500 men, and an officers' mess. Due to darkness, the rest of the buildings and installations located in this area could not be identified. 2. On May Day and the October holidays, the troops located in the installation annually constructed the necessary telephone installations in the demonstration and parade areas. A signal training center of the aamd forces was allegedly statione'dlat this installation. Colonel Afanaziev (flat) who spoke only Russian was commander of the unit. The offle~ included other1Soviets whose wives were clearly identified as Russians by their appearance. 3. In May 1954, the summer camp of the troops from Warsaw-Okeyie was located in a pine grove near Benjaminoe (R 53/F 01). The barracks installation on the west aide of Al. Zevirki in '+Vigury and just north of Okecie :airfield is reported for the fire time. It is believed that the unit observed in the area of this installation is a signal regiment. Since the signal unit of the lst Div is known to be located in the barracks installations in Praga, the unit is probably the headquarters signal regiment of the lst M or the MNO.
