In addition to the tank cars..on lease to firms, there exists a.free car park under
the direct,control of the-Ministry for.Transport, which consists of:
1,400 tank..cars.for the transport of gasoline (VK-Wagen)
1,000 tank.. cars for.the transport.of diesel fuel (DK-Wagen)
Total 2,400
Of these, 73 are RU+Wagen, which are described.as,Russian built tank.cars con-
verted to.standard.guage.
3. SAG car park
Two thousand tank cars, which formerly belonged to the. Russian-controlled.SAG1
firms,were not returhed.wfth.the firms to East German control.in.1954, Their
return to the Reichsbahn dates only, from 1 . January. 1955.
4. Effective quantity of dolling Stock
The Tank Car Control office operates with an estimated permanent effective
strength ofusable.tank.cars varying around.12,000 cars. This figure does not
include cars under repair or on.loan to other Soviet Bloc states. No new tank
care have been built since the war, although some cannibalization of decrepit
stock has taken place.
