REMARKS 25X1 25X1 i 25X1 25X1 1o The following air activity and aircraft were observed at Haethen airfield between 30 November and 22 December 1g5r: 30 Aovember. Between 1000 and 1200, there was little air activity by t:iG=15s or II-MiG-15s. The individual aircraft made 1^cal fliGhts. A row of 7 I~iG-15s or II-MiG-15s was observed bet:cwon thc~ eastern hangarso No radio truck was observed at the field. Aowever, a rod antenna ~r~as noticed in a revetment in the northeastern cor:~er of the field. Two b~iG-15s or II?Ni1G-15s were seen on the dispersal area in the south- eastern corner of the field. Two soldiers crorked on the alert airerafto 1 December. Between1515 :end 1630, 4 NiG-15s or II-t'iG-15s Rere parked in front o r the western hangar and 1 A:iG-15 or Q-tiiG-15 was seen in front of the northeastern hangar. A roar of 17 bliG-15s or UM:i~-1~s wee observed on the dispersal area at the northern edge of the laridir-g field. Three radio trucks ~~ere p;,rked nee~r the gap in the fence east of the run~.~ay. One25X1 aircraft took off, circled once over the field and disappeared to~rard the westa No additional xir activity was obaexwed. 3 Decemberv Between 1230 and 1330, 6 MiG-15s or U-tIiG-15s were parked without~ny arrange::.ent in front of the southern most hangar of the group of hangars located in the eastern section of the field. A group of soldiers and a women wearing civilian clothes were seen near the aircraft, Additional swept-back jet fighters observed at the eastern section of the field included ~ parked in a row in front of the nort!-~ern most hangar and 2 i?~side of it. No air activity was observed. 8 to 20 December There was no air .,ctivit . On 17 December, maintenance work was beinE; done on 3 swept-back jet fighters parked in front of the eastern har~ars. The tail was removed from one phase end the parts of the jet engine could be seena 21 December. Air activity tree observed after GEi3G. No afr activity was observed. ~ 2. Radio installation and radar installations. During the air aotivity on 21 December, two radio trucks including one with an umbrella-shaped antenna, were parked dust northwest of the gap in the Fence. 1Yhen air activity was discontirnzed, the two radio trucks were removed. loo changes were observed on the stationary radio or radar :nstallationa which were previously reported. 3. Personnel About 6 sub-lieutenants who were from 22 to 24 years old and had apparently arrived recently were led through the largest depar`?ment store in Boethen by an older air force member who had repeatedly been seen in the town. The 6 new sub-lieutenants wore no decorations and their hair was not close cropped. They moved about in an awkward way. 2 4. Fuel dump On 16 December, 1 truck with 2 large barrels moved from the fuel dump in the northeastern corner of the field to the hangars. On 20 December, 1 officer and 2 soldiers were engr~ed in measuring the contents of a propped-up fuel container. 5. Air activity and aircra~.ft etren~th 25X1 On 4 December, no air activity was abserved at the fields At about 1100, 2 1~iG-~15s or II-~diGrlgs were towed out of the western hangar. Subsequently, maintenance work was done on the aircraft. Additbnal swept-beak Set fighters were observed in the partially open hangar. 1 Comment., It is believed that Koethen airfield is still occupied by 1 fighter regiment and 1 reconnaissanoeUNCODEDt equipped with MiC?15s. Only little air activity was observed. ~ Comment. The xchange of flyir~ and ground personnel during the fall season of each year was reported repeatedly. SEC:IET?
