?xperiments with hard coal slurry which had been delivered by Poland inst`Rad
of hard coal were completed by 1 December. The results showed that that
material. mixed with hard coal can be used for the Lirin. of locomotives and
is about equivalent in value to raw brown coal,` 'railroads have been
using hard coal mud for the firing of locomotives ~ r~ rat years. 4

Because of insufficient hard coal deliveries, large amounts of raw brown oval
are still used. On 22 November, the raw brown coal proportion of total eoe~l
stocks was 22 percent. 5
Gn the occasion of a conference held in late November, it was stated that the
c~a~ situation of the Berlin railroad district is critical. Part of the coal
earmarked for consumption by stael works Y~ iko ba $sed for railroad purposes.

Comment. Compared to the status of 18 November for which 3.5 days' 25X1
requirements were recorded, c~o_al stocks increased to 4 days' requirements
on 29 November.
2. (Comment. The hard coal proportion of total coal stocks was 53 percent 25X1
on 18 ~?ovember and 35 percent; on 29 November.

of coal ~;vere supplied and 120,425 tons (BU, were consumed.
Comment. This informat:~on is received for the first time. The use of 25X1
inferior coal is necessitdted by the critical coal eitutaion of the
railroads. Since the use of raw brown coal has already raised operational
difficulties, these difficulties are expected to increase in connection
