Comment. The possibility that a medium mortar battalion
of the 226th Mort Regt of the 12th Gds Tank Div stationed in the
See Kaserne was reequip d with 12 x 122-mm field howitzers had
already been mentioned
Comment. The Tauentzien Kaserne has been believed to be
occupied by the 338th Engr Bn and the U/i sig Bn of the 207th
Mtz Rifle Div and, poss bl b the 90th Inde Engr Bn of the
LXXIX iMMtz Rifle Corps. Since, according
to available information, engineer battalions of motorized rifle
corps are equipped with approximately 4 tanks, the observation
of the two T-34 tanks supports the assumption that the engineer
battalion of theLXXIX Mtz Rifle Corps is also stationed in the
Tauentzien Kaserne.
Comment. The detonation, which was observed in connection
with the exercises of the 12th Gds Tank Div, possibly was to
represent the explosion of an atomic bomb.
The Scharfenberg is located 3 km south of Wi6tstook.
