RD REFERENCES THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITI THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) The following is a summary of Soviet and KVP military activities prior to 7 November 1954: A. Soviet Troop Dispositions, Movements and Exercises: 1. Second Guards Mechanized Army: Elements of the 31st AAA Division were moved in one shipment from Velten to Fuerstenberg on 29 October. 2. Third Guards Mechanized Army: The return of the 6th Guards Tank Division to Wittenberg was confirmed on 2 November. One train with 15 converted boxcars, two boxcars and four flatcars had gone from Wuensdorf to Wittenberg on 31 October. The return of the 80th Heavy Tank and SP Regiment of the 9th Mechanized Division to Installation 3300 in Drachhausen was determined on 2 November. Seven additional barracks are scheduled to be built at Drachhausen~ 3. Third Shock Army: The return of the army engineer battalion from Tangerhuette to Barby was confirmed on 21 October. L,. Eighth Guards Army: On 22 and 23 October, an artillery unit with 22 artillery pieces returned to the Bismarck Kaserne (8385) and the Hubertus Kaserne (8382) in Naumburg. The 76th Artillery Brigade was identified in Merseburg prior to 24 October. Elements of the 68th Guards Heavy Tank and SP Regiment of the 20th Guards Mechanized Division were observed detraining in Jena on 20.and 21 October. A rifle regiment of the 39th Rifle Division was observed at its post in Meiningen on 20 October. NAVY }[ AIR FBI AEC (NOTE: Washington distribution indicated by "X"; Field distribution by "#".) One train carrying elements of the 32nd AAA Division with 32 x 37.2 mm AA guns went from Frankfurt/Oder toward Berlin on 30 October. 6. GSFO U nits On 19 October, three trains carrying major elements of the 36th Bridge Building Regiment went from Magdeburg to Coswig/Elbe, presumably for exercises in the Appolensdorf area. 7. Transportation: Personnel Exchange Program: Thirty-five eastbound occupied rains were definitely determined between 29 September and 4 November. It is believed that 24 additional trains were dispatched during this period. Forty-two westbound occupied trains were definitely determined during the aforementioned period and additional ones are believed to have been di8patch3d. It is estimated that prior to 4 November 98,000 recruits arrived in East Germany and 81 000 dischargees have been returned to the USSR. The following east bo d trains are scheduled to be dispatched between 9 and 16 November: from Bernau toward ues r n ana eignT, a from Jueterbog to Kuestrin via Frankfurt Oder. b. Dispatch of Flatcars: The detachment of empty flatcars from RED Berlin for shipment to Brest-Litovsk was interrupted on 3 November after the dispatch of ] No more than 1,000 flatcars could have been dispatched prior to this date.-Me purpose of.the operation has as yet not been determined. B. KVP Developments: Two hundred and fifty men of Infantry Regiment Prenzlau have been detached to Corps South.
