interest are athognostic changes resulting; from swine pest and the causes
of death of swine through heart failure.
b. Lebensmittelhygienisches Institut ,headed by rrofessor Ketzt(fnu).
This Institute is engaged in the examination of foodstuffs,
particularly of meat and silk samples. Its special interests are methods
for indicating TB excitors in ::ilk and the production of germ-free milk.
c. Veterinaerparasitolotgisches Institut,headed by _'rofessor Eichler (fnu).
The Institute is engaged in the examination of animal stool
sam_vles and skin scrapings. Its special field of interest is the study of
t:'r_o effect 4..c_ the dosage of contact insecticides. The Institute has a field
branch office on the island of Aiddensee, where arop'.:ylactic methods for
parasite control are studied on a continuing ha.;is.

Institute is engaged in problems diagnosis of contagious

f. Veterinaerpharmakologisches Institut, headed by Dr. habil. Benz (fnu).
The Institute is engaged in testing various materials for poisons and in
examining for purity veterinary medicaments. Its research interest is
concentrated on the use of humane medical preparations for veterinary
purposes.
g. Institut fuer Huf- and Klauenbeschla4pheaded by Professor Schleiter (fnu).
This Institute is engaged in the study of new methods of shoeing animals.
Special research projects concerning the effects of improper shoeing and
neglect of care for the claws are being carried out. The Institute has a
training smithy. 11
h. Chirurgische Tierklinik, headed by Professor Schebitz7(fnu). On the
average there are 70 animals under treatment at the clinic. The clinic
also carries out research work, which concerns the use of antibiotics in
treating wounds, perlon net implantations, and thoracic operations.
i. Medizinische Tierklinik ,headed by =rofessor Felix Mueller. This
clinic usually has about 30 animal patients under treatment. These are
for the most part cases which cannot be properly diagnosed by the usual
methods. The clinic is engaged in research on the use of antibiotics
against animal plagues, particularly against erysepilis. It is also studying
the diagnosis of pernicious anemia and the Berns, sickness of horses.
j. Geburtshilfliche and Aabulato7ische Tierklinik headed by Professor
Walter (fnu). About 25 animal patients are usually under treatment; these
are for the most part cases of impeded births and embryotomies. The research
work of the clinic is concerned with Caesarian births in cattle and swine,
examination of sperm for suitability for breeding, and the connection between
periodical disturbances and abortive insemination. The clinic is also doing
research on procedures for combatting tuberculosis of animals.
k. Tierpolyklinik fuer kleine Haustiere headed by Professor Schulze (fnu).
Research is concentrated on the use and osage of new medicaments for small
animals. In addition, affiliatedxiields, such as the effect of contact in-
secticides on mammals and false teeth for valuable animals, are studied.
