There are three rag carding factories in Bulgaria, These are located in Sofia, Sliven and Gabrovo. The largest of these is the "K lo D ti S . n eve eptemvri. It cards rags collected in all parts of Bulgaria as well as rage imported This factory has a daily production of 11 in t 40 ons of carded wool. Carded wool is sent directly to other factories for spinning. The factory has a stockpile of 30-40 tons of old rags. The factory employs about 120 workers in two shifts. One shift works from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours, and the other works from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. hours. There are no guards at the "Klon Deveti ieptemvri." S Ch '4 T to Cl h? S a +Sa Fa to 6. The "Scarp i Chuk" factory is located about 4,000 meters north of the center of Gabrovo and 1500 meters north of the Gabrovo railroad station on the west bank of the Yantra River. There is an iron foot bridge over the Yantra located near the factory. There are meadows so th u , woods west and orchards north of the factory. The factory has tailoring, shoemaking, saddlery and carton box sections. 8. The factory emp]ovs about 1100 workers, and 500 persons work in the tailoring section. The factory works in two shifts except when there is a rush job when a third shift is added. The first shift works from ./+ a.m. to 1 p.m., and work is stopped from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. hours for breakfast. The second shift works from 1830 p.m. to 10 p.mo hours, and work is stopped from 8 p.m. to 8830 hours for dinner. The first hour of each shift is spent in cleaning the shops and machinery. Workers change shifts each week. The factory is closed on Thursday as there is no electricity and operates on Sunday. 9. The administrative personnel of the factory consists of a manager, assistant manager, two accountants, four cashiers, two personnel officers, five typists, two telephone operators, post office clerk and eight bookkeepers.' No Soviets are attached to the factory. The following are employed at the Surp i Chuk factorys a. Every day 3000 meters of serge, an unknown quantity of material for summer uniforms, 4000 meters of black serge9 7500 meters of thin black material and 6000 meters of tenting canvas is stocked at the factory.* The material is supplied by the Vulko Chervenkov factory in Gabrovo. Thread, buttons and similar items are supplied by other factories in Gabrovo.* 11. The factory works on a moving belt system so that each worker does one operation. The factory has 300-350 electrical sewing machines, two press cutting machines, two button machines* and 23 machines for sewing trousers.* 13. The completed articles are turned over to Senior First Lieutenant Todorov who is the Armv representative at the facto 14. Every worker at the factory is issued a gate pass. This pass is grey and bears the picture of the worker, the seal of the manager and a seal of the security officer.* This pass is inspected by Militia stationed at the gate. The workers are also searched by the foremen and others designated by them. About 10 Militia are stationed at the factory. They are stationed at the gate at all times'and form night patrols. The factory is surrounded by barbed wire. Vulko Cherrrgnkov Textil2,_Factoul 15. The factory is located on the southwestern outskirts of Gabrovo on the Vepchevtai road. The factory installation consists of four or five buildings. The main factory building has two stories and is 50-60 meters long. Two other buildings are used as dormitories,, and there is an assembly building and a bath house. 16. The factory works in three shifts and produces mainly cotton goods such as coarse calico, canvas and cambric. Dobri Karts v I~nittin~ Fact?rv 17. The factory is located in a depression about 200-250 meters east of the Vulko Chervenkov factory and beside a small stream (probably the Sinkevitea stream).1 Troitsa 8innins Mi112 18. The Troitsa Spinning Mill is a branch of a factory It is located about 100150 meters north of the ulko Chervenkov factory and-Ts housed in a two-story, 40-meter=long building. Wool and cotton carding machines are on the first floor of the factory building, and spinning jennies are on the second floor. 25X1 25X1 Bolshevik Machine Parts and Iron Fact 25X1 19. The factory is located about 7-8 kilometers from Gabrovo on the Kazanluk road. The Yantra River passes east of the factory. The factory building has tw stories and is about 50 meters long. The factory produces machine parts and articles such as looks and keys. 23 Dekemvri Shinning Mill 20. The factory is located about 10 kilometers from Gabrovo and north of Lyubovo village on the Kazanluk road. The factory is located on the eastern bank of the Yantra River opposite the Surp i Chuk factory (See Appendix B). It is housed in a two-story, 50-meter-long building. The glue and gum is produced from the waste products of hides, ( this is known as the "Lepilo" Glue factory). 25X1 Dim1 ur niaoev yan-p s -n-r- 23. The factory is located between the Yantra River and the road leading to the Surp i Chuk factory 20-30 meters south of the railroad bridge over the Yantra River (see Appendix B). The factory is located on the eastern bank of the Yantra River about 800-1000 meters north of the Surp i Chuk factory (see Appendix B) and is housed in a two- story, 40-45-meter-long building.
