Regimental maneuvers took place in the vicinity of Sofia on 21. March 195I.. 25X1
Reservists called up early in March for a long period and others called up
just for these maneuvers took part., together with regular Army units from
the Sofia area, The purpose of these maneuvers was to study means of pro-
tection against airplanes and against atom bombing.
Comments The movement of troops leaving Sofia during the night of
23- March 514 and returning during the night of 24-25 March was observed.
An infantry battalion, an antiaircraft battery, about 15 tanks, six self-
propelled'guns, and several trucks were observed. Furthermore., jet aircraft
flew over Sofia several times between 22 and 25 March 19514.. The area in the
vicinity of Durvenitsa was restricted on 24 March 19514? Maneuvers allegedly
took place also north of Sofia.
