1. It is rumored that Admiral Cq,ERAKOW of the Polish Navy has been rec911ed to the
Soviet Union. His name or photograph never appear in the Polish newspapers.
2. Since the autumn of 153, there has been no mention of (neral KORCZ~@yChief of
the Polish General Staff, and the Szczecin deputy Atember'of the Polish parliament
in Warsaw. As fax' back as autumn of 1953, K08C~~~ was temporarily represented by
Soviet-General $4'~is"?QI~'AR~WICZ; the latter was the commander of the Military
Te~chnical~Academy rWojskowa Akademic Techniczna - W.AoT.) in Warsawo Sometime
during the period between mid-February and 23 March 1954, Soviet General Jerzy
B014DZILOWSKI, formerly chief inspector of the Polish engineers, was assigned as
-Chief of the Palish General Staffo PIGAREWICZ returned to his former function
as commander of the WoA.T.

of general: PRZONSKI (fnu); JAKUBIAK (fnu); $tJSZCZA (fnu); WARYSZAK (fnu); BENSKI
(or BANSKI) (fnu); CYMBAREWICZ (fnu), and othersol Some of these officers are of
Polish descent,- and have served in the Polish,~rmy for a considerable time; not
infrequently, they have assumed Polish names.
4. It is rumored that Polish Army terminology for officer ranks, including generals,
will be changed to correspond to Soviet Army terminology; there will be four
general ranks, i.e., i~~jor mineral, ~,ieutenant ~~neral, etc., and the f~,fth will
be marshal.
5. The reserve officers corps is being modernized-and .augmented year by year. Every
reserve officef is recalled to the army for a six-to-eight weeks period each year.
Each reserve officer, moreover, is called to attend the sa-called reserve off~,~ers
'"control meetings" (zebrania kontrolne dla oficerow rezerwy), which are held six
.times a year. These meetings, arranged by the commander of the Regional Recruiting
Office (Rejonowa Komenda Uzupelnien - R.KoU.)~occasionally take place in the R.K,U,

commander's offices, but more often in the various military units in the district,
and sometimes in a military camp. Theoretically, and as stipulated in the ch~,~ter,
the control meetings should last 12 hours at.most, but the officers are usually
obliged to remain three days, depending on the nature of the exerc~;pe or training.
Reserve-officers called to attend the control meetings are issued free railway
tickets, food, and lodging, but receive no remuneration inasmuch as they continue
to receive wages from their civilian employers during this period.
