1. In late January 1954, the USSR placed a purch,Eing order with VEB 0 tik Carl
Zeiss, Jena, via DIA for 748,000 spectacle lenses (Punktal Glaeser) subdivided
for the various optometric corrections. Delivery of these lenses is to be made
in 1954.
2. 1h March 195k9 hegotiations'..'.were progress.with DIA for an additional
1,000,000 Punktal lenses, also-to be delivered to the USSR within calendar year
1954. Part of the order is to be supplied by Zeiss, the remainder by VEB Rathenowe:
Optiache Werke (ROW). ROW advised DIA that it would not be able to supply the lenses
requested unless its 1954 production plan is materially changed.
3. The USSR Trade Delegation furthermore advised that it is interested in placing an
order for about 3,000,,000.Punktal lenses for delivery in 1955, and another
3,000,000 for delivery in 1956.
