Between 8 a.r. and 1:30 p.m. on 26 January 1954, 12 PiG-15s, 1 semi-high wing monoplane, and 2 Yak-11s were observed at Parndorf (P 48/X 77) airfield. The eastern edge of the field could not be observed. No air activity was conducted. There was a 10/10 overcast at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, a northeasterly wind of about 8,km/h, visibility of. about 20 km,, and a temperature of 16 Centignrades.below zero. During the period of observation, the roaring of engines was repeatedly heard from the 1"iG--15 dispersal area east of the fuel dump. No activity was observed at the field. About noon,: a total of about 165 men of whom 115 were counted, all of them wearing fur clothes, left the temporary buildings at the south-western edge of the field. 2. The AA gun emplacements were guarded by sentries whose service color could not be determined because of their fur clothes. Six canvas-covered 37-n 25X1 AA guns were observed in the emplacements. No structural changes were observed on the wooden garages when compared with the last observation in December 1953. ~~g,ucksl ed in the s 11 k Sixteen motor vehicles were an 4 n trucks, were parked in front of e garages. No activity was observed near the battery-charging station. A thick cable rope extended from the temporary building with telephone co--nection (7) to a small cone-shaped antenna with a disc on top (27). The number of lines leading into the temporary building had apparently increased. Four tank trucks were parked near the fuel dump. 3. The masts of the long-wire antenna had been removed, w?:ile the truck with a van-like signal superstructure and 2 rod antennas was Ptill there. The motor vehicle number of the truck had been painted over. No changes were observed in the status of the PYV-45 DF station, the Kniferest-type or the F4 shnet- type radar sets. Two van-like trucks were parked in front of the two small sheds near the radar sets; the sheds were apparently used as garages for the vehicles. At the foot of the antenna was a small wooden shed, in. the rear wall of which a thick cable terminated which ran from the telephone shed. Next to the pyramid-shaped antenna with a disc was a van-like truck. The rear wall of the tank shed just west of the garage sheds had been boarded up, thus making a counting of the tanks Impossible. The shied bad a holding capacity of 6 tanks. Four searchlights mounted on about 1.5- :ter-high masts were seen approximately along the western border of the runway strip. The mobile control station and the van- like truck next to it were parked at their previous locations. On the roof of the van-like truck was a divice which bore resemblance to a small pyramid-shaped antenna. A large container was being mounted on a high trestle near the aircraft repair shop. A house in the southwestern corner of the field was occupied civilians who spoke Russian.. Field Cosmrent. It is believed that Parndorf airfield is still occupied a Soviet fighter regiment.
