The ISUL (Institut 3a Spetsializatsiya I Usuvlirehenstvuvane na Lekarite Kadri) Hospital in Sofia is both a district hospital and an institute"for specialized studies. As a hospital it has 900 to 950 beds, and one of its rooms is reserved for members of the Soviet Embassy in Sofia. As an institute, it is the center for specialized studies in epidemiology. Many physicians, principally those who graduate with high academic credits, are directed to specialize in the epi- demiology field. 2. The Ministry of Health attaches high importance to establishing sanitary- epidemic stations,and the physicians who are charged with organizing stations or who are sent to work at stations must have previously passed specialized courses at ISUL. 3. Sanitary-epidemic stations are divided into three categories: district,fsub- district, and town. Each category is furtherr!subdivided on the basis of popu- lation. a. District stations are either Group 1, for districts with more than 600,9000 inhabitants; Group 2, for districts with 350,000 to 600,000 inhabitants; or Group 3, for districts with less than 350,000 inhabitants. b. Subdistrict sanitary stations are either Group 1, for more than 100,000 inhabitants; Group 2, for 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants; or Group 3, for less than 50,000 inhabitants. c. Town stations are either Group 1, for more than 100,000 inhabitants, or Group 2, for 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants.
