The building is two stories high, about lS meters squares painted yellow, and has a twin-sloped tile roof. It is enclosed by an iron railing set in masonry supports, A single guard is stationed at the entrance. .litar Zone 2. The following area around Burgas is considered to be a "military zoneg" a. North boundary, an imaginary line joining Burgas and Yambol; be East boundary, the Black Sea; c, West boundary, an imaginary line south from Yambol to the Turkish border; and d. South boundary, the Turkish Bulgarian border. 3. 'Civilians are forbidden to travel in this zone without a special permit. Resi- dents of the area are given a permanent document known as an "otkrit list." Non- residents apply to the Militia for permission to enter the area; permission is granted only for emergency cases. 4. It has been much more difficult to obtain passes to this area since the distribu- tion of interior passports which was started in January 1953 and coipleted in April 1953. 5. this "zone" has a large concentration of troops and I permanent defense works are under construction. 25X1 SECRET/CONTROL G U0S. Trial Mobilization 8. On 17 and 18 July 1953, when the work in the country was most intense, a trial mobilization was held in the Burgas area. The recall orders were issued on post- cards and concerned men up to 45 years Qf ages The card indicated the point at which the men were to assemble lxrrierliatelyupbn'teosipt of the card at any mss at their disposals The reason for the mobilization was to ascertain how fast mobilization could be car ied, out in An emergency. The men were kept at the assembly centers for a period of three days, during which time they were given some military instruction.
