there was one battalion of regular Chinese Communist
troops in Bun pan (N 32-39, E 103-37) City in addition to some local
public security troops. There were also about 100 cavalry troops in
Nanp'ing (N 33-159 E 101#-14),uone cavalry company in Changla (appraxi-
mately N 32-119, E 103-39), one cavalry company in Huangshengkuan (N 32-505
E 103-35)9 one cavalry battalion in Maisang (approximately N 3.3-01,
E 101-55), one cavalry battalion at Pateng (approximately N 33-13, E 103-33),
and one cavalry.battalion at Tatsangszu (1129/5661/11+08).

25X1 Comment. TENG is a former Szechuan warlord who reportedly
defected to the Communists in 1950.
25X1 reported him in charge of a number of Southwest Military District troops
in January5i.1951. On l1+ October 1952 the New China News Agency, considered
reliable ih this respect, named HO Ping-yen as ovmmander and FAR Chao-li
as deputy commander of the Szechuan Military District. HO was again
reported as military district commander by the same agency on 22 January 1953.
