3. On 26, 27, and 28 November and 6 December, a train with military-personnel
was dispatched to the east via Neestrine
mete The shuttle-trains are commented on as followss
L On 20 November 1953, the train passed with replacements
through Kuestrin to the west and, according to the present report, probably
went to Jueterbog for unloading. Afterwards, the train was redspatohed to
the Greifswald railroad district where, as a reemployment has not been
observed, the train nossibly was disassembled.
Ithe train was empty and
Ithe train carried military-personnel during its
trip on 22 November 1953, the actual employment has not been determined.
Ihowever? on 23 November 1953, the train was
disassembled at Magdeburg. Thus, the data on the train in paragraph 2
?probably are incorrect.
I On 12 November 1953, the train arrived in the zone vie
Nuestrin. Between 12 and 23 November 1953, the train left the zone probably
only once again and possibly for Brest Litovsk via FrankfertiOder.
kel 22 November 1953, the train went from Cottbus to
Jaeodin. The present report indicates, however, that this observation was
incorrect.
Following its unloading at Weimar on 24 November 1953,
the empty train possibly was redispatched to Jueterbog for loading on 26
November 1953 the train left to tho east via
Nueetrin on 27 November 1953 and returned on 1 December 19530
Previous information and the present report Indicate
that the train hauled military personnel to the west via Nuestrin on 17
November; went to Koval via %ben about on 20 November; returned via
Guben on. 25 November to be unloaded at Frankfurt/Oder and Hieme/pfort near
Fnersteeberg; was rediepatched eppty to Wustermark for cleaning on 26
November; went empty to Justarbog for reloading on 27 November; carried
military personnel from Jueterbog to Guben on 29 November; and returned,
either empty or loaded with military personnel, from the east to Jneterbog
via Guben on 5 December 19530
k On 27 November 1953, the train was unloaded at
nimmelpfert near Fuerstenberg and, probably empty, redispatched to the
Halle railroad district where the train possibly was disassembled.
The other shuttle-trains do not furnish new information. Their .
apploynent was peeviously reported or they are continuing
previous pperationee
The observations indicate the termination of the replacement prograe during
the first days or December /953. Analysis of all shuttle-trains ahows that

totals of 70 eastbound trains, including 59 trains confirmed and 31
unconfirmed, with 96,000 dischargees and 85 westbound trains, including
76 trains confirmed and 9 unconfirmed, with 117,300 replacements were
dispatched. The totals of personnel were computed on the basis of the
assumption that each shuttle-train carried an average of 1,380 men.
Fatperience alows that the surplus of about 20,000 men will be equalized
by a gradual discharge of the sick?, and detachirg or transfer of personnel
diming the next 12 months. Thus, an actual increase of the Soviet forces
in East Germany is not expectedo
