On 8 October IS'55,three engineers of the '3cientific-Technical.

VT:13 Carl Leiss, Jena, end tried to place an order for the develapr
:ront of the monhanical parts of a galvani cheodolite .1lich is
xider-dovelpment at 'TBG in the spring of 1953,the Zeiss firm
hud uureed to build the glass coll., called a Helmholtz coil,
for the ins..rumant, Nothing has been done as yot,because the
nDcessary sheets of German silver have not been available..
Luring ther October visit, the three 7:TBG engineers tried to
persuade 'Zeiss to take over the .winding of the coil with a
tolerance of one micron for the .windin distances, in addition
to the Coil and the mechanical pc,rts of the device,
rejected
all additional requests and reiterated its willing-
to build th.: coil only when the needed m6terials were .
