1. The Sofia-Bankya (N 42-42, E 2348) road, which to approximately 15 kilometern
long, is being asphalted. The work was started in the last halt of 1952, sus-
pended during the winter, and started again during the present summer season.
It is estimated that the work should be completed about 1954.
2. This road is the first road. in Bulgaria to be asphalted. All other roads are
either dirt or gravel. Few roads are ',Ramsey and the onlyzement road is the
principal Sofia-Turkish border highway -which passes through Plovdiv.
3. The-fia that Bulgarian roads have natural surfaceso'cohhiaid with the al' ost
complete lack of maintenance, explains the terrible condition of the roads
throughout the country.
