Eberswalde has received no cigarette shipments from the USSR. since 15 June, allegedly as a result of disrupted rail traffic in Poland. An uprising broke out in Poland about 19 June. Partisans came out into the open, joined by Germans who are still residing in Silesia. Some Soviet soldiers defected to the partisans. Special units were called in from the USSR to hunt down the partisans. Katowice, Bytan (Beuthen), and Gliwice.(Gleiwitz) are under martial law.. Pojamd 1. Derailment of a Train 2. THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. A sgheduled meeting of the Central Committee of the SED was twice post- poned during the week of 5-li July 1953. The reason given is that no directives had been received and that members of the Committee were away on agitation tours. 2. Individual members of the Central Committee are refusing to make any comments on the fall of Lavrenti P. Beriya, until the party line is made clear to them. The SED organ Neues Deutschland has limited its coverage of the matter to the reprinting ova- raavvc`a article and TASS bulletins. 25X1 for the Russian zone is the subject of general conversation. there is little talk in East Berlin about the Beriya case.
