1. Prior to 1 May 1953, the Flak Kaserne in Wismar was about 80 percent
occupied. I3e ween 11. and 23 April, about 40'C troops wearing black-
bordered crimson epaulets and carrying small arms were daily seen
leaving the installation, marching toward the airfield. Between 24 April
and l May, the unit did not march out to the airfield. Between 11 April
and I May, about 250 troops,'wearing black-bordered crimson epaulets
and carrying entrenching tools, twice a week were seen marching toward
Zuesow, 34 km east of Wismar, On 1 May, 530 troops, who wore red-bordered
black epaulets, left the installation for the monument. A f._mov o tads -
,p.: was observed on the southeast eornar of the Flak Kaserne. Between
11 and 20 April, vehicular traffic was normal and, between 21 Aprii and
1 ,flay, rather light. About.- 50 railroad carloads of cement, which allegedly
was needed for the crnnstruction of hunkers, arrived in Zuesow.1
