ENCLOSURES (NOV & TYPE)-
25X1
From 8 to 22 April 1953, the Putlitz Kaserne on Memeler Strasse, Rostock,
quartered an estimated 1000 troops who wore red-bordered black epaulets
with artillery insignia. At 6 p.m. on 21 April, about 150 soldiers engaged
in athletic exec>cises.
From 8 to 22 April, the barracks installation on Ulmenstrasse was occupied
by about 8CC soldiers who wore red-bordered black epau,7ets, including some
with artillery or signal insignia. In addition, 17 soldiers wearing black-
-bordered crimson epaulets and naval soldiers were seen. The naval soldiers
were quartered in one wing of the front building. On 17 April, about 4C
officers, 1 military band, 12 soldiers and about 250 more soldiers marched
into the installation, with the soldiers being equipped with submachine guns
and rifles at a.-.a equal rate. On 19 April, two trucks towing s presumably
76.2-m-: AT guns, entered the installation.
3. On 10 April, the Putlitz Kaserne was about 80 percent occupied. At 7:30 a.m.
on 11 April, 1C prime rovers, each occupied by 8 soldiers wearing red-border-
ed black apaul ets with fertlllery insignia, moved out of the barracks in-
stallation toward Doberan. Each truck towed a 100-rain AT gun. About 40 sol-
diers cleaned 10 x 57 mm AT guns, about 50 soldiers with red-bordered black

25X1 1. c r err. The units of the 3d Gds AT Arty Brig appear to have been
a eir quarters in the barracks installation on Ulmenstrasse and in
the ?utlitz .serve until 22 April. The equipment of a brigade as indi-
cated in paragraph 3 of the report corresponds to that of an AT brigade
with two mediwn and 1 heavy AT regiment , as they are still in existence
with the 4th AT Arty Brig (US) of the IV Arty Corps. In 1952, when the
brigade was reassigned from the Third Shock Army to the IV Arty Corps,
the brigade probably exchanged for AT guns the field howitzers with which
it had been equipped at that time and, thus, confirmed with the require-
ments of the IV Arty Corps which already had an artillery division equipped
with high-angle weapons.
