Weather was 10/10 overcast with heavy snow drifts and li Cited visibility. No aircraft or AA Luna were observed at the field, The Artillerie Kaserne in W'i-3n3r-:1oustadt was guarded by a soldier who wore black-bordered blue epaulets. 4L var.;-like truck was seen in a wooden shed in the yard of the installa- tion about 30 mete-s east of Feidgasse. A wooden antenna, mast which was believed to be extendable, was seen near the shed. Two lead-:ins 1 . he antenna mast to the van-like truck in the shed. Sedan 25X1 B was seen in the barracks yard. The telephone lines extending the A gun emplacements at the southern edge of the installation were newly laid by soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets on poles of the public telephone system. Red, blue, green and black heavy tel ei hone cables were being used. The ' arracks camp west of Winer Nmr;:stadt was guarded by soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets. 1.11ai_ntenanco w^rk on motor vehicles was being done at the camp. From 7:30 p.r.. to 9:40 p.n. on 17 March, there was air activity by I}iG-15s. The weather was fair with moder:.zte southerly winds. Another MIG 15 showed a red light below the fuselage about in line with the cabin. The landing pl nes used landing li:rhts. A searchlight which directed its beam horizontally anc in a right angle to the runway was seen at the edge of the woods near the pyrotechnic plant in line with the flight control station. The handing aircraft touched ground in south-north direction in the beam of the searchli 'ht. The two rows of spotli;:?ts north of the Wiener Neustadt - Bad Fischau highway and in the northeastern portion of the field were directinj , their red be~.ms diagonally upward throughout the tire of obse ,vatiorl. According to previous information, '13 unidentified aircraft were seen at the installation besides the usual MiG-15s on 17 March 1953. It is unknown, whether these planes were Pe-2s and whether they represented elements of the bomber regiment transferred from Asp-rn to Wiener Neustadt airfield.
