1. Leaders of the Co nisi Party of Chile (PCCh) are waiting for instructions
from abroad before issuing aw resolutions with respect to the stand of the
PCCh towards the sterner attitude which the Chilean Government has adopted
towards use. PCCh leaders are disconcerted by announcements from
Ioscow relative to the release of the 15 physicians who were condemned for
crimes against the Soviet state. Moreover, they are confused by the press
notices relating to-the travel of Maurice THDREZp French Comaunist leader.,
who returned from t cow accompanied by a Secretary of the French Embassy
in Moscow. The sp eculatjon in hil can Co " st circles is -that THOMZ is
in difficulty with the Kremlin.- These events, plus the recent changes in
President I Zc ,bf t, have stalled the activities of the PCCh, with the
result that no resolutions regarding future political tactics - vvi Ill be forth-
coming until, the Party line firmly established in instructions

2. The PCh was unprepared for the recent changes in I i cabinet, and it is

as Minister: of Interior, is likely to be unsympathetic to the Commmist,
