Pablo NERUDA, well-known Chilean Communist poet, and Alfredo VARELA, Argentine Communist, reportedly handle the bulk of official Communist correspondence between Buenos Aires and Santiago. Correspondence from VARELA in Buenos Aires is directed to Margarita AGUIRRE$ Chilean Communist, in care of one Pablo LLONA, at the Santiago offices of the Sociedad C'anadera Gente Grande. Upon receipt of the correspondence, AGUIRRE passes it on to NERUDA, who is responsible for its delivery to the officials of the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh) for whom it is intended. 2. AGUIRRE is one of the leaders in Communist women's groups in Chile and has assumed increasing importance inrecent months. LLONA is a young leftist intellectual who is eager to serve the leftist intellectuals of Chile, who he believes are being persecuted. He is a close friend of AGUIRRE. It is not believed that he has any idea of the content of the correspondence addressed to AGUIRRE in his care. He turns all corres- pondence over to AGUIRRE immediately upon receipt. 25X1 A CONFIDENTIAL 25X1A 30 March 1953
