REQUIREMENT PLACE ACQUIRED REFERENCES Pistols 1. Rumanian Air Force officers were allowed to select their own side arms. The most popular were the Beretta, FN Browning, Hauser Model 1910, and Walther PP pistols in calibers 7.65 MUG or 9 mm. short. The 7.65 mm. was the caliber most generally used and the Mauser 1910 and Walther PP were more popular than the other two makes of pistols. Submachine Guns 2. The most widely used submachine gun in Rumania was the Orita, a blowback weapon adapted to the 9 mm. parabellum cartridge. It had been made at Resita, Rumania, since about 1939, and was extensively employed by Rumanian troops during World War II. Principal constructional details of this weapon included a machined steel receiver, a 20-round box magazine and either a wooden or folding metal stock. The wooden stock model was used by the Security Forces, Militia and the Army infantry. The folding stock version had the same general appearance as the German MP 38 and MP 40, and was used, by the Air Force Lee Enclosure .47. Rumanian Army cavalry used a short-barrel carbine. the The Light Machine Guns 7. The standard Rumanian light machine gun was the 7.92-mm. ZB. having a box magazine on top of the receiver. 50X1-HUM 50X1-HUM 50X1-HUM Aircraft Machine Guns 8. The 7.92-mm. Browning aircraft machine gun was used on RuManian 50X1-HUM IAR-39 and IAR-80 single-engine training planes. The IAR-39 mounted one of the guns, while the IAR-80 had four in the wings beyond the radius of the propeller. An alternate type of automatic gun used in the IAR-80 tralnar my the-20-mm. Oerlikon. The Rumanian Air Force considered the Oerlikon automatic gun muon inferior to the Mauser. 14. These had four wheels (duals in rear), and___ they had four-wheel drive. They were used as artillery'pr e movers ad for transporting personnel. The Rumanian Army also had several six-wheel Czech Skoda trucks which were used as artillery prime movers. These had detachable caterpillar tracks which were used on the rear wheels to increase trac ion. Also in use by the Rumanian ArMy were six-wheel cargo trucks They looked very much like US-made 'pucks which the Soviets brought with them into Rumania near the end of World War 11. 16. The' Rumanian Air Force had several German-made V-8 tracks which are used for hauling cargo and transporting perm) el. These were, obtained from the Germans during World War II. These vehicles had a lightly-built metal body with four doors and a canvas top. They had a four-cylinder engine in front Which produced 25 to 30 horsepower. 4 21. Czech Tatra sedanswere used by the 50X1-HUM Rumanian Security Florins ana milivia. The Tatra had an air-ceoled engine in the rear. The Security. The RuManiah Army and Air Force used Ge?rman BMW and Zuendapp motor- cycles. They were given to the Rumanians by the Germans-in 1943- or' 1944. When received by the -Rumanians they were yellOw, indicating that they most probably had been used by the Afrika Korps. Both makes had two-cylinder engines and sidecars. The BMW Was a 750-cc., while the Zuendapp was an 1,100-cc. Bombs 23. Bombs used by the Rumanian Air Force were of Soviet manufacture.
