REFERENCES
1. After the Chinese Communists Intervened in the Korean war, Communist
authorities assigned approximately 800 landing craft built in Shanghai
in 1950 as follows:
One hundred 100-ton craft to the central naval command and subse-
quent attachment to the. North and Northeast China fleets as trans-
ports and auxiliary vessels.
One hundred 100-team craft to the naval cop=and of the East China
Military Area for conversion to small gunboats, patrol boats, and
river defense vessels.
e. Sixty 100-ton craft to the Supply and Service Command of the East China
Military Area naval command for use as supply transport vessels.
d. Seventy 100-ton craft to the transport department of the East China
Military Area for the movement.of supplies to ground forces.
Seventy I 100-ton craft to the $ast China Navigation Bureau for use as
passenger and cargo,vesisels.,.,
Thirty 5Q-ton craft to the central naval command.
Seventy 50-ton craft to the naval command of the East China Military
Area for conversion to auxiliary vessels0

One hundred and fifty 20 to 30-ton craft to the transport depart-
ment of the Supply and Service Command of the East China Military
Area for use as auxiliary vessels in inland river transportation.
Fifty 20 to 30-ton craft to the East China Steamship Company for use
as inland river cargo vessels.
2. At the time of assignment each landing craft had a speed of less than
ten knots. The naval command of the East China Military Area replaced
the engines of the landing craft it received and converted them into
gunboats with engines capable of 12 knots .
