An order for the construction of these vessels was placed with the Volkswerft Stralsund (Nationalized Shipyard) by the HVS and six of them were to be delivered to the division in late 1952. On 26 July 1952, the Finesweeping and Coastguard Division of the Sea Police was transferred from Wolgast to Peenemuende and took up quarters at the newly-built barracks installation between the town of Peenemuende and the Peene River, leaving only the administrative offices of the division at its previous quarters in Wolgast. The sea police requisitioned the harbor of the Peenemuende power plant and converted part of it. 2. The division was subordinate to the Hauptverwaltung Seepolizei (Sea Police Main Administration) (HVS) at 139 a Schneller Strasse, BerlinNieder- CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY REPORT INFORMATION REPORT CD NO. schoeneweide, and received instruction and orders from this headquarters by telephone, by teletype, or by a courier who came in a sedan once a week. In late September 1952, the Minesweeping and Coastguard Division totaled 680 to 700 officers and enlisted men. The division included the division headquarters, a sweeper flotilla of six motor minesweepers, two Kuesten- sicherungsabteilungen (coast protection units), each consisting of five coast protection vessels, and the headquarters with the administrative offices at the base of the division in Peenemuendeo The division also had I tank vessel, 1 supply vessel, 1 fire boat, 2 launches, about 20 cutters, and 1 sailing yacht, in addition to the six sweepers and 10 coast protection boats.i 4.
