LARGE-SCALE PLANTING OF MIILBP;RRY TRF.F.S IN UZBEK SSR -- Moscow, Pravda, 23 Nov 53
The planting of trees is being carried out everywhere in the Uzbek SSR, in
cities and villages, along irrigation canals any railroad routes, on mountain
slopes, and in steppe regioas. During a period of 2 weeks; ~0 million seedlings
of different varieties of trees will be planted. This is 3 times as large as the
number planted last year.
The planting of mulberry trees is being conducted on an especially large
scale. The food base of silk worm cultivation will be doubled.
During the fall of 1953, about 10 million mulberry trees will be planted
in the kolkhozes of the republic.

The free floating of timber has been completed on the rivers and lakes of
the Karelo-Fi~trish SSR. Preparations are being made 'or navigation in 1954.
Important work is being carried out at the Olonets Floating Office. Large
new dame are being constructed at Nsrvozha and Lyuba. Adam is also being con-
structed at Vel'muksa in Pudozhskiy Rayon.
The workers of the Pudozh, Belomorsk-Segozero, and other ;bating offices
are carrying out mayor repairs on many hydrotechnical installations. /:s rivers
and water basins thaw, they are being cleaned of submerged wood and windfalls.

The repair of ]wing quarters has been completed in settlements of float-
ing workers. More than 8,000 square meters of living space has been constructed,
much more than the plan figure.
MEEP PLANS FOR TIE SHIPMENTS -- Petrozavodsk, Leninskoye Znamya, 5 Nov 53
Many timber storage yards in the Karelo-Finnish SSR successfully met October
plans for tie shipment. The Babguva Timber Storage Yard shipped more than 140
carloads of ties from its impregnating plant, exceeding the monthly plan figure
of 8P carloads.
The Novyy poselok Timber Storage Yard of the Kondopoga Lespromkhoz (Timber
Management) shipped EO carloads of ties in October, almost double the plan figure.
The Chalna, Ukhitsa, and Derevyanka timber storage yards also overfulfilled
considerably the October plan for tie shipping.

she new Lakhkolambinskiy Lespromkhoz has begun operations in the Karelo-
Finnish SSR. Felling, loading, and haulage of timber are completely mechanized.
During 1953 a series of new enterprises has been established in the heavily
forested rayons of the republic. Among them are the Segozero Lespromkhoz and
large mechanized leaopunkts (logging centers) in Medvezh'yegorskiy, Kemskiy,
Petrovskiy, and other rayons.
TIMBER SHIPMENTS FROM PZNSKAYA OBLAST TO DON BASIN INCREASE -- Kiev, Pravda

The Luninetskiy Lespromkhoz in Pinskaya Oblast has shipped six carloads of
timber above the plan figure to the mines in the Don Basin. During December the
timber workers of the oblast shipped 1.5 times as much timber to the Don Basin
as in November.

The fall-winter timber felling season has begun in the republic. The Eriy-
skiy and Tarbagatayakiy lespromkhozes, the largest in the Buryat-Mongol'skaya
ASSR, have fulfilled the yearly timber felling and haulage plans on time. These
leading enterprises have pledged an adds*.ional 100,000 cubic meters of timber by
the end of the year.
The lespromkhozea are being supplied with the newest type of equipment.
Important work is being Sore fir the training of qualifies cadres. Several thou-
sand tractor operators, drivers, mechanics, and motor, electric saw, and steam
power plant operators, in addition to other types of workers, have been trained
this year. Many workers have acquired two and three trades.

NEW MACc:IlVFS SLATED FOR KARELO-FINNISH SSR IN 195k -- Petrozsvodsk, Leninskoye

The Ministry of the Timbe
r and Paper Industry Karelo-Finnish SSR has re-
ceived, from the Riga Machinery Plant of the Msin A;iministration of Spare Parts,
30 electric branch cutting machines. They were all shipped to the Shuysko-
Vidanakiy and Payskiy lespromkhozes. By the end of 1353, 150 more of these ma-
chines will be received from Riga.
During 1954, the timber industry of the republic will receive sizable quan-
tities of new machines. During *,he first quarter of 1354 the Minsk Truck Factory
will ship 50 seven-ton MA2_200 timber-hauling trucks. This truck hauls twice as
much timber as the ZIS-21 truck used now.
The Moscow Truck Factory is shipping 100 ZIS-151 trucks to the republic.
This truck is extremely maneuverable in difficult terrain and ezsily crosses over
swamps, snow covered ground, and the poorest types of roads.
DESIGN ROAD-LAYING MACRINE FOR LESPROMKROZES __ Yellin, Sovetsksya Estoniya,

The laying of portable wooden roads from highways to cutting areas in les-
promkhozes has required much time and labor, as has constructing them and remov-
ing them when no longer needed. A group of workers of the Tallin Lespromkhoz
(chief engineer, Tefanov; fitter, Roste; and mechanic, Sof*+1 tiA~,o .~e.,AinnPd a
read-laying machine which can be loaded with enough bosrd~ to build a road
60 meters long. The group has also perfected the design of t~:~ ouarua for the
road.
The road-laying machine sad the new type boards have been successfully em-
ployed at the Yellin Leapromkhoz, in particular, at the Kola Lesopun;ct. The use
of the new machine hsa lowered the expenditure of labor by 2.5 times sad effected
significant monetary savings.
The Ministry of the Timber and Paper Industry Estor:lan SSR has held 1 meet-
ing at which chief engineers of the lespromkhozes of the republic were acouainted
with the design of the road-laying machine sad the new Type boards.

Leningrad Paper Plant No 1 is expanding its assortment of iroducts. In Novem-
ber it mastered the production of a series of valuable products. Today it sent a
large shipment of strong cardboard to consumers This extra tough cardboard uill
be used in the printing and publishing industry and the furniture industry. Sheets
of this material are stronger than those made by gluing boards tope*,her. This
extra strength cardboard is a good conductor of sound and can be used in the pro-
duction of musical instruments.

Another production victory of the paper workers is a soundproof cardboard.
It is manufactured in thick sheets and is used as sn insulating material be-
tween walls sad ceilings in building construction. Experiments have shown
that this new material is absolutely impervious to sound. This soundproof
cardboard is manufactured from paper production waste and used tires.

The workers of the Solikamskiy Cellulose Paper Combine a:e manufacturing
from production waste fodder yeasts containing 45 percent protein. This prod-
uct is shipped to fodder yeast plants, sovkhozes, and other orgzuiizations.
The combine is taking measures to e.:pand the production of fodder yeast.

Woodworking plants in the Karelo-Finnish SSR arm daily increasing the
shipment of their products to the Central Union of Consumers Cooperatives
(Tsentrosoyuz) and to the Union of Timber Trading Cooperatives (Soyuzlestorg)
for sale to kovkhozes and sovkhozes.
During a period of 2.5 months, workers in the lumber plants of Kareldrev
(Karelo-Finnish Woodworking) Trust have shipped about 5U0 carloads of lumber
to a wide market. The housing construction workers of the 11'inskiy and Belo-
morsk lumber mills have shipped about 10~ carloads of prefabricated ports for
double flat staudaid houses, on the order of the Central Union of Consumers
Cooperatives.
Ttmbur storage yards in the republic have shipped about 170 carloads of
ties and more than 700 carloads of tie slabs for construction work in kolkhozes
and sovkhozes.

The workers of the Tallin Wood?,rorking Plant imeni A. Leyner have prepared
a shipment of woodworking construction products to be used in the construction
of two large scbrinistrative buildings in rlstyciuibad. The shipment was comprised
of 250 running meters of staircase raili..~;, 12 sets of ?.;indoa pulleys, and 50U
running meters of plinth. This is the second successive year that the factory
has successfully filled orders i'or construction ?.rorkers in the Turlunen SSR.

PRODUCTION OF HOTHOUSE FRAMES AND CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS INCREASES __ Frunze,

Timber enterprises have increased their output of products for agriculture.
They have manufactured twice as many hothouse frames as they did by this time
last year. They expect to produce more than 900,000 of them by the first of
January.
During 1954, vegetable growing kolkhozes in the USSR will receive 2 million
hothouse frames from timber enterprises, and also many other materials necessary
for the construction of hothouses and greenhouses.
LEER MILL FILLS YEARLY PLAN FOR STANDARD HOUSING -- Moscow, Moskovskaye Pravda,

On 29 November the workers of the Kirov Lumber Mill filled the yearly plan
for the production of four flat prefabricated houses.
One thousand homes, in which 4,000 families can live, have been shipped to
timber felling enterprises in Kirovskaya and Molotovskaya oblasts. Each flat
in a prefabricated house consists of two rooms and a kitchen.
The mill has recently begun to fabricate houses for agricultural organiza-
tions. The Pasegovskiy MTS in Kirovskiy Rayon has received five such homes.
,, The Kirov MTS has received four prefabricated homes far agricultural specialists.
FURNITURE CHINE SUPPLIES MANY CITIES WITH ITS PRODUCTS -- Kiev, Pravda Ukraigy,

The Zhitomir Furniture Combine has dust finished on time an order of high-
quality furniture for the Moscow Main Univermag.
The combine has also filled or. time an order for equipment for specialized
textile shops in Kramatorsk and Lisichansk. It has recently received an order
to supply new stores in different cities of the USSR with furniture.
DESIGN SPECIAL TRUCK TO PROTECT FJRNITURF; __ Moscow, Vechernya Moskva, 4 Nov 53
A special truck has been designed to prevent the damage which often occurs
to the polished surface of furniture when it is transported on conventional type
trucks. On the Order n? 1hA r.?~~....,., a_....aa.y__ m -,

the first of such trucks on the chassis of the GAZ-51 truck.
This trunk will work with a covered ?railer, which is also to b~ used for
the transportation of ilirniture. Both truck and trailer will be equipped with
sliding doors similar to railroad car doors, which will facilitate the loading
and unloading of furniture.
Production of the first furniture truck began several days ago.

NEW POWER PLARTS~ REPAIR SHOPS FOR THE rIAtBER IN[~STRy __ Brest, Zarya, 15 Nov 53
Today workers of the Likinskiy Machine Building Factory shipped two portable
PES-6O power p]snts to timber-industry enterprises. This factory has filled on
time its yearly plan for supplying electric poorer plants to enterprises of the
timber and paper industry.
Timber enterprises in the Karelo-Finnish SSR, the Urals, Western and Eastern
Siberia, and the Far East have received large numbers of PES-60 power plants.
In addition to electric power plants, the factory produces portable repair
shops. During November the factory will manufacture ten portable repair shops
above the plan figure for the timber industr,~.
