CHU CHIANG WATER CORSERVATIOP WORK FOR 1951

The five large Chu Chiang crater conservation protects, which included
dike constructions at Tu-chou-wei (~ y `~, ~ )
at the Tung Chiang. Chin-tung-hsi-xei (~ .f,~ )' Tung-]nian ( 9~
and $sin-chiang-ta-wei ( jY,
dl( ~ )~ ) at the Hsl Chiang, Ch'ing-hsi-wei
(~ `~ i~ ), Ch'ing-yuan (:'~ ,j~) at the Pei Chiang, and the repair
oP Lu-pao Lock (f ~, 7k QA ) at San-shut ~ )
'1'~ ( ^ ~ , were completed
by the end of June 1951.
The water conservation work for 1951 on the Chu Chiang Included the repair
of seven lock openings, construction of the 101-meter long Lu-pao Lock, con-
struction of one 5-gate lock, two 3-gate locks, two culverts for the 2-gate
lock, and five culverts for the single-gate lock. Work completed included
11,360 cubic meters of cement work, 13,530 cubic meters of stone work (of
which briclnrork consisted of 3,290 cubic meters); and 1,224,000 cubic meters
of earth work. Approximately 9,~2 piles from 1.4 to 12 meters-long were
driven.
Investment in Chu Chiang water conservation cork for 1951 totaled 21
billion yuan. It was estimated that the four protects, not including the
Lu-pao Lock, will benefit 540,000 mou of agricultural finds.
