THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION USSR METALLURGICAL INDUSTRY PRODUCES CONSUMER GOODS [Most reports on the progress of the Soviet consumer goods program have been confined to the metropolitan dailies. Numbers in parentheses refer to appended sources.] USSR consumer goods output in metallurgical -1-ants has increased by 15 per- cent from January to September 1953. The production of enamelware, copperware, aluminum utensils, nickeled brass coffeepots and teapots, stainless-steel knives and forks, beds, and other hardware is on a steady rise. Over 100 different types of consumer items are now being produced by USSR metallurgical plants.(1) The !Dnsimter goods program of the Southern Ural Metallurgical Plants is praiseworthy. The Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant is manufacturing 42 percent more nickel-plated spring beds than in 1952. The efforts of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine are also laudable.(2) Nickel-plated beds are being manufactured by the Moscow Pipe Rolling Plant in its newly created consumer goods shop.(3) The consumer goods shop of the Most w Rlektrostal' Metallurgical Plant has overfulfilled its September .L9j3 norm by :1,000 stainless-steel knives, forks, and spoons.(4) a new sheet rolling plant on the road between T)nepropetrovsk and Novo- Moskovsk, the 18-percent-mechanized consumer goods shop manufactures galvanized pails, vats, pans,-children's bathtubs, and other itema.(5) The Tallin Pioner Foundry pledged to increase consumer goods production initiated in 1952. This foundry has been consistently overfulfilling its out- put norms.
