ANNOUNCE WINTER TRAFFIC SCHEDULE FOR USSR RAILWAYS
FEATURES OF WINTER TRAFFIC SCHEDULE -- Tbilisi, Zarya Vostoka, 11 Dec 53
At 0001 hours on 11 December, the railroads of the USSR began work ac-
cording to the winter schedule. Freight hauling in the Urals, Siberia, and
the Donbass will increase somewhat. The new schedule provides for the opera-
tion of local freight trains and consists with local-distributing cars which
are to satisfy the demand of intermediate stations for loading, unloading,
and hauling of consumer goods.
The new schedule of trains provides for an increase in car turnaround time
and an increase in the average daily run of locomotives.
The winter traffic schedule of passenger trains was also introduced at 0001
hours on 11 December.
Petrozavodsk, Leninskoye Znamya, 11 Dec 53
' The speed of trains operating on the winter traffic schedule is to be not
less than 450 kilometers per day.
Under the winter schedule, summer weight norms are to be maintained.

fast express trains and will operate on the main routes (Moscow-Novosibirsk,
Moscow-Tbilisi, Moscow-Dnepropetrovsk, Moscow-Leningrad, Leningrad-Odessa, Sts,-
lingrad-Chelyabinsk, and others); 76 will begin hauling perishable freight and
livestock and 51 will deliver milk and dairy products to industrial centers.
The average speed of these freight trains is to be 452 kilometers per day.
Since the volume of loading and unloading at intermediate stations has in-
creased, the number of local trains on many sections has also increased. Some
sections (e. g., Moscow-Mozhaysk and Beslan-Groznyy) will be serviced by three
or four pairs of local trains.
OPERATIONAL CHANGES ON TRANSCAUCASUS SYSTEM -- Tbilisi, Zarya Vostoka, 11 Dec 53
Considerable changes in the traffic of freight trains have been introduced
on the Transcaucasus Railroad System. According to the winter schedule, an ex-
press freight train not provided for in the summer traffic schedule will ply be-
tween Tbilisi and Moscow. For faster hauling of perishable goods, two special
trains composed of refrigerator cars will be dispatched daily from Tbilisi to
Bataysk. One of these trains will travel to Bataysk through Adler, the other,
through Baladzhary.
The number of local trains for the hauling of fruits and vegetables on the
Transcaucasus Railroad System is to be increased.
The new schedule provides for several changes in the traffic of passenger
trains. According to the summer schedule, there was only one passenger train
operating between Tbilisi and Baku. Another passenger train will now be die-
patched on the odd days.
