RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA CURTAILED -- Zurich, Neue Zuercher
Zeitung, 5 Dec 53 (AM Edition)
Since the Bishop of Brno, Dr Karel Skoupy, has been relieved of all church
functions, two new priests in Milulov, named Macek and Boks, were ordained by
Communist-appointed Vicar Kratochvil.
According to the official Catholic gazette, Katolicke Noviny, Monsignor
J. Buchta, Vicar of Ceske Budejovice, was replaced by Moscow appointee
A. Titman.
The Gray Sisters, Catholic order of nurses, were forced to move from their
house in Vrsovice, a suburb of Prague, to the nunnery of Broumov; the house in
Vrsovice had been assigned to them after the seizure of their headquarters in
the old part of Prague. Sisters of other orders who are needed in the nursing
field are under precsure to renounce their religious garb.

Up to the present, 2,300 parochial primary schools of the Rumanian Orthodox
Church, 24 Orthodox secondary schools, 13 Orthodox seminaries, 3 Orthodox theo-
logical faculties, 8 Orthodox cantors' schools, and an academy of religious
music have been suppressed in Rumania.

POLISH CURATE ARRESTED -- Berlin Der Tagesspiegel, 7 Nov 53
Adalbert Zink, chief curate of Barmia, was handcuffed and taken to an
unknown destination when 30 officers of the Polish security police recently.;
raided the official residence of the Bishop of ihrmia at'.szty'. Petrusblatt,
newspaper of the Catholic diocese of Berlin, also reported taat the bishop's
files were searched and seized.
