FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORKERS RELD AT WARSAW
The first plenary meeting of the Centrnlna Komis,Ja KwalifikacyJna (Cen-
tral Qualifying Commission) for scientific research worY.ers was held 29 April
1953 in the meeting rooms of the Urzad Rady Ministerw (Office of the Council
of Ministers), in Warsaw.
A. Rapacki, Minister of Higher Education, discussed the task of the com-
mission. The commission, consisting of 60 prominent scholars, will confer
the following new scientific degrees: kandydat nauk (candidate for doctor
of sciences) and doktor nauk (doctor of sciences). It will also confer the
following scientific titles; docent, profesor nadzwyczaJr>,y (associate pro-
fessor), and profesor zwyczaJny (fu]1 professor). It will control the quali-
fying commissions for assistant scientific research workers which were created
in the higher schools and the research centers; the task of these commissions
will be to confer titles of assistant scientific research workers.
The members of the presidium of the central commission were elected at
the meeting. Four sections of the commission were established. As a result
of these first sessions, the commission specified the basis for conferring
the degree of csadidate for doctor of sciences an3 t_.e title of docent.
