DATE OF INFORMATION 1952 DATE DIST. // Ay 1953 SOURCE Newspapers as indicated, SPECIALIZED FARMS IN RUMANIA STEFAN PLAVAT COILTIVEIS RICE HARVEST -- Bucharest, Vista Capitalei, 20 Nov 52 Fifty peasant families of Sudeti Commune, Slobozia Raion, formed the Stefan Plavat Collective in 1950. The collective had a membership of 460 families in 1952. Both in 1950 and 1953, this collective had better yields for most crops than individual peasants of the commune. Their most important crops were cotton and rice. The harvest of rice in this collective exceeded all other rice yields in the regiune. Rice was planted over an area of 100 hectares. When the first planting was planned, only 8 hectares were intended for rice, but on the recommendation of Adam Dumitru, secretary of the primary organization, and other communists in the collective, a plan was set up for planting 100 hectares, of which 84 were to be for actual planting and the balance for roads and irrigation canals. The irrigation of the rice plantation was insured throughout the season by the MPS, which rented to the collective three engines and three pumps. The harvest started on 15 September 1952. Sixteen plots yielded as much as 8,000 kilograms of rice kernel per hectare. The other lots yielded up to 5,500 kilograms of rice per hectare. This is twice the 2,800 kilograms origi- nally expected when the plan was considered. Up to November 1952, some 30 carloads of rice were turned over to the Uniunea Raionelor Cooperative Slobozia (Union of Cooperatives of Slobozia Raion). This rice has a weight of 59 kilo- grams per hectoliter, with very little foreign matter. 8 MAI 1921 COLLECTIVE, LIPIA-BOJDANI COMMUNE, HAS SUCCESSFUL RICE HARVEST -- Bucharest, Vista Capitalei, 6 Nov 52 In spring 1952, a general meeting of the 8 Mai 1921 Collective, Lipia- Bojdani Commune, Caciulati Raicn, decided that the peasants should grow rice. However, the harvest was 5,375 kilograms of rice per hectare, with a weight of 57.7 kilograms per hectoliter.
