In completing the Volga-Don Canal in the 4-year period, the builders used
185 excavators, over 500 scrapers and bulldozers, hundreds of dump trucksia
veritable flotilla of suction dredges, seven automatic concrete plants, some
large mechanized quarries, and other auxiliary plants.
Esh-4-40 MODELS GO TO VARIOUS DESTINATIONS -- Baku, Bakinskiy Rabochiy, 22 May 52
On 20 May, the Novo-Kramatorsk Plant imeni Stalin shipped a 4-cubic-meter-
capacity walking excavator to the Azerbaydzhan SSR,

The Novo-Kramatorsk Plant imeni Stalin has completed the assembly of an
ESh-4-40 excavator for the Sredazgidrostroy Administration. In consideration of
the conditions under which the machine will work, fans have been built into the
cab, and all units of the machine have been covered with a special coating to
guard against sand and dust.

The ESh-4-40 excavator built on order from the Sredazgidrostroy Adminis-
tration is the first such machine the Novo-Kramatorsk Plant imeni Stalin has
turned oui; for that organization.

The Novo-Kramatorsk Plant imeni Stalin is now assembling a series of ESh-4-
40 walking excavators, all destined for the Kuybyshev GES and the Volga-Don Canal
projects.
SHIP TEN MACHINES AHEAD OF PLAN -- Moscow, Pravda, 14 Jun 52
The SE-3 electric excavators produced by the Sverdlovsk Uralmash Plant have
been widely used by the builders of the Volga-Don Canal and the Kuybyshev GES.
During 152, the Uralmash Plant made ahead-of-plan shipments of ten more SE-3
machines to the construction projects.
Tashkent, Pravda Vostoka, 24 Jun 52
The Sverdlovsk Uralmash Plant has shipped to the builders of the Main Turk-
men Canal two 3-cubic-meter capacity Uralets excavators. Such machines have
proved their worth at the Tsimlyanskaya GES project, where their daily productiv-
ity was as high as 5,500 cubic meters of earth per day.
NEW PLANT STARTS PRODUCTION -- Stalinabad, Kommunist Tadzhikistana, 20 May 52
The first shops of the Machinery and Repair Plant of the Stalingradgidro-
stroy Administration at Poselok Volzhskiy Stalingradskaya Oblast have turned out
their first products.
The plant has assembled seven electric excavators from the Urals. It builds
equipment for high-voltage power lines and for water mains, and is now establish-
ing production of electric vibrators for driving in metal pilings.
MEET PLAN EARLY -- Moscow, Moskovskaya Pravda, 21 Jun 52
The Dmitrov Excavator Plant completed the 5-month plan ahead of schedule,
and turned out several excavators above plan.
MANUFACTURERS, OPERATORS WORK TOGETHER -- Moscow, Pravda, 3 Jul 52
During the past 3 years, the Kovrov Excavator Plant has received and filled
ahead of schedule 34 orders for earth-digging machines and their spare parts for
the great construction projects.
Excavators from the plant worked on the Volga-Don Canal. Kovrovets machines
may be seen at the constrrction sites of the Stalingrad, Kuybyshev, and Kakhovka
GES, and of the Main Turkmen Canal.
Representatives of the plant nave been working closely with the construction
workers to impro7e tht. efficiency of their machines. In the last 2 years, plant
designers have studied the performance of over 200 machines. Conversely, opera-
tors from the construction projects have come to the plant with suggestions for
improiements in design, some of which have been put into effect.
One result of the collaboration of construction workers and plant designers
is the new experimental model E-507 excavator, which is now undergoing plant

EXCAVATORS PERFORM WELL -- Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy, 12 Jul 52
Director Sereda of the Kiev Krasnyy Ekskavator Plant reports that the 26
excavators which the plant contributed to the builders of the Volga-Don Canal per-
formed ideally. The plant is now designing some new machines for the great con-
struction projects.
SBIP OUT BULLDOZERS -- Tashkent, Pravda Vostoka, 31 May 52
The Chelyabinsk Plant imeni Kolyushchenko has shipped some bulldozers above
the plan to the site of the Kuybyshev GES project. It has se.. s-se bulldozers
and scrapers to the builders of the Volga-Don irrigation system, completing the
order ahead of schedule. 0

The Chelyabinsk Plant imeni Kolyushchenko has begun to produce four-bladed
bulldozer-rigged rooters. Two such machines have already been completed for the
builders of the Kakhovka GES.
A4,F DITCRIRG MACHINES -- Kishinev, Sovetskaya Moldaviya, 12 Jun 52
The Minsk Udarnik Plant has completed ahead of schedule the assembly of a
group of KM-800 ditching machines. The plant furnishes its machines to irrigation-
farming areas in Central Asia, the Komi ASSR, the Buryato- Mongol'skaya ASSR, and
to Bryanskaya, Veliko-Lukskaya, Gor'kovskaya, and Vladimirskaya oblasts.
BUII.D 30 GRADERS -- Moscow, Pravda, 26 Jun 52
The Bryansk Road Machinery Plant racently shipped out 30 graders to the
builders of the Kakhovka GES -- all above the 6-month quota. The plant filled
ics 6-month quota of equipment for the Main Turkmen and Volga.-Don canals, and for
the Kuybyshev GES project well ahead of schedule.
