On 17 and 18 June, hot weather with showers and thunderstorms prevailed in
most of the European USSR. On 18 June, noon temperaturec in most areas ranged
between 20 '. 22 degrees.fAAll degrees are in centigrade
Cooler weather with daytime temperatures of 16-17 degrees prevailed in the
western regions, Urals, and Bashkir ASSR.
Ground moisture in most areas is good. Winter rye has headed :n Molotov
Oblast, is flowering in the central regions, and has reached the milky maturity
stage in the Dnepropetrovsk area. Winter wheat has entered the milky maturity
stage in the southern Ukraine.
On 19 and 20 June, very warm, slightly cloudy, dry weather prevailed in
most df the European USSR. In the western regions it was cool, and quite heavy
raiv fell. On 19 June, heavy downpours fell in the Caucasus and locally in the
soutL_rn Urals.
Warm weather with precipitation has favored the growth and development of
agricultural crops. Winter rye is flowering in Moscow Oblast. Grain is ripening
in the gastern Ukraine.
Moderately warm weather continued in Western Siberia. On 19 June, rain fell
;in southern Krasnoyarsk, and eastern Altay krays and in eastern Kazakhstan.

On 22 and 23 June, overcast weather with rain was observed in the north-
western European USSR. Locally, precipitation there amounted to 20-30 milli-
meters for a 24-hour period. Cool weather with showers and thunderstorms was
recorded in the central and southern regions and Urals.
On 23 June, temperatures were 14 degrees above zero in Riga, 16 in Minsk,
17 in Petrozavodsk and Leningrad, 19 in Vologda, 20 in Sverdlovsk, Orel, and
Rostov on the Don, 21 in Moscow, 22 in Kirov and Kiev, 23 in L'vov, Dneprope-
trovsk, and Krasnodar, 25 in Tambov, 28 in Kazan', 29 in Chkalov, 3C in Saratov,
and 31 in Kuybyshev.
Moderately warm, dry weather continued in Western Siberia. Ddring the day,
temperatures reached 22-24 degrees above zero. Warm weather, mostly without pre-
cipitation, prevailed in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Rain fell only in the
mountain regions of Central Asia.
Warm weather and recent rains in most of the European USSR have created
favorable conditions there for the growth and development of r Bicultural crops.
Winter crops in most of the European USPR are, for the most part, in good or
excellent condition. Winter rye has reached the milky maturity stage in most
of'the Ukre.ine and southern Stalingrad Oblast, and is flowering south of a
line running approximately through Pskov, Kalinin, Ivaiov. Shar'ya, Molotovsk
(Kirov CSlast), Onutninsk, and Nizhniy Tagil.

On 24 and 25 June, cool weather with showers and thunderstorms prevailed
in the Baltic countries, western Belorussia, and the western Ukraine. Heavy
rains fell locally in the eastern and southeastern USSR and Northern Caucasus.
On 25 June, noon temperatures were 12 degrees above zero in Kiev, 13 in
Lvov and Kishinev, 16 in Minsk, 17 in Riga and Leningrad, 19 in Sverdlovsk,
Orel, and Rostov on the Don, 20 in Voro.hilovgrad and Odessa, 21 in Vologda,
24 in Moscow and Krasnodar, 27 in Ufa and Chkalov, 30 in Stalingrad, 30 in
Kazan' and Kuybyshev, and 34 in Saratov.
It became slightly cooler in central Western Siberia and central Kazakhstan.
Light rains fell in the east portion of Western Siberia and eastern Kazakhstan.
Hot rnd dry weather continued in Central Asia and western Kazakhstan.
. Winter wheat has entered the milky maturity stage in the southern and
eastern Ukraine. It has reached the waxy maturity stage locally in Groznyy
Oblast,
vending of spring wheat has begun in nest of the Ukraine and southern
Voronezh and southern Saratov Oblasts.

On 26 and 27 June, hot weather prevailed in the eastern half of the European
USSR. It was cool in the western half. Downpours and thunderstorms were re-
corded in the Ukraine and northwestern and western regions. Quite heavy rains
were recorded in the central Urals. On 27 June, noon temperatures were ll de-
grees above zero in Minsk, 13 in Livov, 15 in Velikiye Luki, 16 in Riga, u.8 in

Petrdi viodsk, Leningrad, Kiev, and Odessa, 19 in Sverdlovsk, Kishinev, and
Sisifero o1', 20-in-Bostov on the Ton, 23 in Krasnodar, 25 in VoloSda, Orel,
aiddYoroihilbvgead, 28 in Moscow and Kirov, 30 in Oor'kiy, 32 in Kuybyshev,
and -33 in Saratov.
Cool weather prevailed in Western Siberia and northern Kazakhstan. Shovers
vere'recorded in Aovoeibirsk, Tomsk, and Omsk oblaste and northern Altay Kray.
On-26'3une, daytime temperatures were 16 above zero in Barnaul, 18 in Krasnoy-
arsk and Semipalatinsk, and 21 in Omsk and Akmoliusk.
