This morning, cloudy weather with light and moderate frosts was observed
in most of the European USSR. There were snowfalls in the Ukraine, Baltic
countries, Kirov, Orel, Voronezh, Kursk oblasts, and Udmurt ASSR. Temperatures
at 0900 this morning were -18 degrees in Kharkov, -15 in Bar'yan-Mar, -14 in
Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, and Stalino, -13 in Murmansk and Rostov, -11 in
Vologda, -10 in Minsk and Kishinev, -9 in Kirov, Riga, Odessa, and Saranek, -8
in Ryazan, Voronezh, and Kiev, -7 in Orel, Ufa, and Lvov, -6 in Syktyvkar, -4
in Stalingrad, -1 in Yalta, and 1 degree above zero in Sochi.
The temperature in Moscow was 9 degrees below zero at 0600 this morning;
it was 7 degrees below zero at noon today.(1)
Temperatures yesterday morning were -17 degrees in Kiev, -14 in Sverdlovsk,
-10 in Arkhangelsk, -9 in Riga, -6 in Murmansk and on Dikson Island, -4 in
Moscow, 2 degrees above zero in Yalta, 7 in Sochi, 10 in Tashkent, and 11 in
Ashkhabad.
Yesterday's temperatures in Leningrad were 12 degrees below zero during
the morning, 7 degrees below zero during the day.(2)
Yesterday, slightly cloudy weather prevailed in Belorussia. Light snow
fell locally in Mogilev and Gomel' oblasts. Temperatures at 1500 were -11
degrees in Mogilev, -10 in Minsk and Baranovichi, --8 in Polotsk and Mozyr, and

falls occurred in the extreme western portion. Temperatures at 1500 were -8

Belorussia. The weather was slightly -loudy in northern Belorussia. Tempera-

This morning, clear weather vith moderate and heavy frosts continued in
most of the European USSR.

During the first isyc of March, cold air masses from Siberia moved over
the entire European USSR from the east and no:t.heast. The cold air spread
quickly to the soutL and oy 5 Mares ha`t reached the North Caucasus, Caspian,
and Kazakhstan, where tempe:at_ree ieli .0 10-15, locally to 20, degrees below
zero.
The cold weather is opresding t, westernr'ur:nenietan, accompanied by
lower temperatures and stern;, northwest 1`- to 20??meter-per?-second winds. Rains
and thunderstorms fell in Asi:;;heU n : T,chanz, nni northern Chardzhou oblasts;
locally, mostly in the northern and northwestern portions of the republic, they
changed to snowfall. Diurnal precipitation amounted to 1-5, locally to 9-10,
millimeters. During the night of 6 March, temperatures fell to 1-3 degrees
below zero in some tarts of Tut kmen i. E, tan. (4j,

observed in southern Belorussia the previous two days began to abate. Slightly
cloudy weather prevailed in the rest of the republic. Daytime temperatures were
-7 degrees in Gomel', -6 in Drisca, Pinsk, and Brest, -5 in Lel'chitsy, Vitebsk,
and Lida, -4 In Minsk and Eobruysk, and -3 in Berezina.(3)
