1. KRAKOW AREA
The following forecasts for southern Poland, compiled by the State Hydro-
logical and Meteorological Institute in Krakow, are taken from the Krakow news-
paper Dziennik Polski. All temperatures are in centigrade.
Cloudy and foggy with intermittent rain. s d drizzle in the valley, rain
and snow in the uplands, and snow in the mountains. Clearing somewhat in the
west during the day. Highest t^mperature during the day around zero. Tempera-
ture range high in the mountains from -4 degrees to -10 degrees. Light and
moderate westerly and northwesterly winds.
Some cloudiness and fog in the morning Mostly clear and warmer during
the day. Temperature range in the uplands during the day from 2 degrees in the
east to 1C degrees in the west. Temperature during the night around zero with
some frost. Temperature range in the mountains from -3 degrees to -8 degrees.
Light to moderate southwesterly and southerly winds. Possible foehn in the
mountains.
On the whole, fair, or rather fair, with increasing cloudiness, especially
in the San River basin and occasional snow. Temperature range in the uplands
during the day from -4 degrees in Slask to 12 degrees in the San River basin;
during the night from -8 in Slask to -20 in San River basin. Prevailing light
easterly and northeasterly winds.

Skiing conditions in the mountains are good. Fresh powder snow of 5-20
centimeters covers a layer of granular snow. Some heavy snowdrifts. Danger of

changing to light southeasterly winds.

noon from the west. Highest temperature during the day 6 degrees, during the
night -6 degrees; temperature range high in the mountains from -8 degrees to
-3 degrees. Calm or light southwesterly winds with passing foehns in the moun-
tains.
Generally fair in the morning with gradually increasing cloudiness in the
west. Temperature range during the day from R degrees to 6 degrees; during
the night from -3 degrees to -8 degrees. Calm or light southerly winds. Fog
during the night and in the morning hours.

in the mountains. Temperature range in the uplands during the day from 2 de-
grees to 7 degrees; during the night from -5 degrees to -10 degrees. Tempera-
ture range high in the mountains from about -5 degrees to -10 degrees. Pro-
wailing light southwesterly and westerly winds.
Cloudy in the warning with rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains,
gradually clearing during the day. Cooler. Temperature during the day around
zero. Temperature range high in the mountains from -6 degrees to 14 degrees.
Moderate northerly winds.

covers prevail in the Sudeten Mountains, packed snow in the Carpathian Mour-
tains, and loose granular and frozen covers in the lower reaches.

in the east. Temperature range in the uplands during the day from -1 degree
to -5 degrees; during the night from -5 degrees to -11 degrees. Temperature
range high in the mountains from -14 degrees to -20 degrees. Light with some

west. Considerably cooler temperatures moving from northeast to south. Temper-
ature range from about -14 degrees in the Suwalki area to a few degrees above
zero in the west.
Cloudy and foggy with possible snow'in the east and rain or drizzle in the
west. Light frost in the east during the night.
Generally fair or quite fair. Some in..reasing cloudiness in the east with
light snow. Temperature range during the night from -6 degrees in the west to
-20 degrees in the east; during the day from -3 degrees to -10 degree:.
Generally cloudy and foggy with light rain or drizzle, clearing during the
day in western Pomorze. Temperature range during the night from 1 degree to 3
