NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 1951 POOR MAINTERANCE SLOWS MECHANIZED LOGGING -- Moscow, Izvestiya, 20 Dec 51 During the third quarter 1951, only 71 percent of the me. ile electric power plants, 64 percent of the skidding tractors, 74 percent of the true:,;, and 85 percent of the steam locomotives planned to be in use in the USSR logging in- dustry were actually in operation. BELORUSSIAN MnTISTRY MEETS 1951 PLAN -- Minsk, Sovetskaya Belorussiya, 7 Dec 51 The Ministry of Timber Industry Belorussian SSR met its 1951 plan on 6 De- cember. The gross-production plan was met 100 percent, the haulage plan 101.4 percent, and the skidding plan 101.9 percent. F. Samuylenko, Minister of Timber Industry Belorussian SSR., promises that the pledge given to Stalin, to haul 150,000 cubic meters of timber, to provide 100,000 ties, and to produce 20,000 cubic meters of lumber, all in excess of plan, will also be met. BELORUSSIAN TIMBER SENT TO DONBASS -- Frunze, Sovetskaya Eirgiziya, 24 Nov 51 In November, rare than 350 carloads of pit-prop timber left Belorussia for the Donbass Mines. MOSCOW ENTERPRISES MEET PLAN -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva, 3 Nov 51 Enterprises of the Ministry of Timber Industry USSR in Moscow city and Moscow Oblast met the third-quarter gross-production plan 106 percent. The workers pledge to meet the 1951- 1952 fall and winter season logging Plan by 25 March, and by the end of the season, on 31 March, to give the country 250,000 cubic meters of timber above the plan, the excess to be provided as fol- lows: 100,000 cubic meters by the Ustyugles (Ustyug Timber) Tr!"st, 65,000 by the Vologdoles (Vologda Timber) Trust, 65,000 by the Cherepcvetsles (C),erepoyets Timber) Trust, 10,000 by the Monzenskiy Timber Management, and 10,000 enter- prises of local fuel industry. They also pledge to increase the yield of industrial timber to 83 percent through better bucking operations. UDMU ' LOGGERS PLEDGE TO EXCEED PLAN -- Moscow, Lesnaya Promyshlennost', 13 Dec 51 The Udmurtles (Udmurt Timber) Combine is obligated to haul. 800,000 more cubic meters of timber in 1951 than in 1950. In a letter to Stalin, the workers of the nombine promised to exceed the 1951 plan by 100,000 cubic meters of timber, 90,000 ties, and 10,000 cubic meters of lumber. In accordance with this promise, the combine met the 9-month plan 102 percent. TATAR LOGGERS MEET PLAN -- Moscow, Lesnayn Promyshlennost', 27 Dec 51 The Ministry of Timber Industry Tatar ASSR fulfilled its 1951 tinier haul- age plan on 15 December by 106.,3 percent and hauled 77,000 cubic meters of timber in excess of plan by that date. KAZAKH TIMBER INDUSTRY LOSES GROUND -- Alma-Ata, Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, 16 Dec 51 The timber industry of Kazakh SSR is operating in a most unsatisfactory man- ner. n in 1949. felling was 28 percent less and haulage 18.6 percent less in 1950 9k9. The 1951 felling plan is far from being met. HYDROLYTIC INDUSTRY PRODUCED MORE ALCOHOL -- Moscow, Lesaya Promyshlennost', 9 Dec 51 The hydrolytic industry fulfilled the 1951 state plan for gross output and for Production of the'industry's main product, ethyl alcohol, on 1 December. Volume production of alcohol from nonfood raw material was 27.5 percent greater during 31 months of 1951 than during the corresponding period of 1950.
