the Turkmen SSE, causing a general sharp drop in both nighttime and daytime
temperatures, The colder weather was accompanied in most areas *y strong,
15-18 meters per second, northwest winds and intensive duet storms.
Considerable rain fell in the foothill and mountain areas of the Kopet_
Dag. Thunderstorms occurred locally. The mair cold wave with morning frosts
passed north of Turkmenistan, striking eastern Kazakhetan.(3)

This morning, cloudy weather with rain was observed in the ,-astern and
southern central regions of the European USSR, Upper and Middle Volga regions,
and the Ukraine. Slightly cloudy, dry weather continued in the rest of the
European USSR.
Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 6 degrees; it was 8 degrees

Yesterday's temperature in Leningrad were 9 degrees daring the morning, 11
degrees during the day.(1)
This morning, cloudy, comparatively warm weather was observed in the
Ukraine, Belorussia, southern central European USSR, and the Crimea. Rain fell
locally in the western Ukraine. Cold weather continued in the rest of the
European USSR; snow fell locally is Komi ASSR and Kirov and !Solotov oblasts.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were one degree in Murmansk and Syktyvkar,
2 degrees in Molotov, 3 in Vologda and Gor'kiy, 4 in Kuybyshev, 5 in Chkalov,
6 in Petrozavodsk, 8 in Oiga, 9 in Leningrad, Kharkov, and Pyatigorsk, 10 in
Orel, 11 in Kaliningrad, Minsk, and Kiev, 13 in Lvov and Rostov, 14 in Kishinev
and StelingrMd, and 18 in Sochi and Yalta.
Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 2 degrees below zero; it was
10 degrees at noon today.(2)
Or, 26 -27 September, the weather became considerably colder in all oblasts
of the Turiu-ii SSi as u result of the intrusion of cold air masues from the north-
west. Daytime temperatures dropped 10-15 degrees everywhere. The colder weather
was arrompanied locally by strong northwest winds and intensive storms. Heavy
rains fell in many areas of Ashkhabad and Tashauz oblasts; they were especially
heavy in the foothills of the Kopet-Dag, where diurnal precipitation amounted to
10-20 millimeters in some places. There was no precipitation in Mary and Chard-
zhou oblasts.(3)
