As c: 1 April 1951, kolkhozes of the republic had spread 15 percent more
manure.. 100 percent more peat, and 66 percent more mineral fertilizers on the
fields than during the same period of 1950.
Machine-tractor stations of the republic were better equipped for spring
agricultural work than in 1950; the number of tractors had increased 61 percent,
tractor plows 54 percent, and seeders and cultivators more than 100 percent. As
of 1 April 1951, machine-tractor stations showed the following increase in re-
pair work over the same period last year: tractors, 36 percent; tractor plows,
37 percent; seeders, 135 percent; and cultivators, 87 percent.
Agricultural work during the spring season was better organized than in
1950. Due to better equipment of sovkhozes and MTS with complex agricultural
machines and better organization of work in kolkhozes, sowing of spring crops

considerably enlarged in 1951, especially for feed and industrial crops.
As of 1 July 1951, MTS of the republic had completed 40 percent more work
than during the same period last year.
As a result of the lowering of state retail prices on food and consumers'
goods on 1 March 1951, the purchasing power of the population was raised, and
sales of these goods increased considerably. Average daily sales of goods in
March 1951 increased as follows over Fy 1951: meat, 25 percent; an mal-
gar-
fats,.23 percent; cotton fabrics, 29 percent;
ments, 27 percent; and hosiery, 32 percent. Sales of radio receivers, clocks,
bicycles, and motorcycles also increased considerably.

cent by trading organizations of the Belorussian SSR. Local trading organiza-
tions completed 96 percent and consumers' cooperatives 96 percent of the second-
quarter plan.
As compared with the second quarter 1950, kolkhoz markets in oblast centers
of the Belorussian SSR increased their sales of potatoes, meat, poultry, vegetable
oil, lard, milk, eggs, and other farm products in the second quarter 1951.
