According to s Cantos dispatch of 11 April 19511 two large transport com-
panies have opened in the Canton Tung-t'i (East Bund) section for the express
purpose oY handling goods shipped under contract to Hong Kong and Macao. Wolfram
and tin ores coat only 130,000 yuan per market catty upon delivery in Hong Kong.
Delivery is made 2 or 3 days after receipt of goods in trade and of costs in
Canton. Local merchants have no idea how these two firms accomplish the ship-
ment so quickly and cheaply. Recent]y the two firma have also begun shipping
tong oil in the same way.(1)~
A Macao dispatch states that a large shipment of goods from Macao Was sent
to Canton Por reshipment to Nan-ning. A large lighter Was ueed for transporta-
tion. The shipment included lour second-hand care bought ia?Macao, three new
Silver Tiger--head trucks, 50 large crates oP Hercules brand bicycle tires, tubes,
and parts, three generators 'of over 100 horsepower more than 100 seta of auto- ?
mobile tires and tubes, about 100 tons of light-weight rails, and 20 light-weight
digging machines. It is rumored that these items will be Forwarded to Nan-ning
to be used in preparation for assistance to Viet Nam.(2)
A Canton dispatch of 12 May 1951 reported that on the previous day a ship
of Canton registry reached Canton from Maceoq. It was loaded with rubber tires.
On the.lllecks were several large trucks. At Canton, the load was transshipped
northward.(3)
