NEW CRANES AND FORK LIFTS SENT TO SOVIET CONSTRUCTION__OJECTS IMPROVE FLOATING-CRANE DESIGN -- Riga, Sovetskaya Latviya, 20 Aker 51 The Riga Machine-Building Plant of the Ministry of the River Fleet USSR received an order after the war to put into production a floating grab-bucket crane for use in ports and at hydrotechnical construction sites. The enterprise had had no experience in this type of production; further- more, the plans drawn up by designers of Giprorechtrans (State Planning and De- signing Experimental Institute for River~Transport Machine Building) contained mistakes. The plant went ahead, however, making with ite own resources the tools and fittings needed for the new production, and had the first model of the floating crane out by autumn 1948. 3y now the plant has built and shipped out dozens of these cranes, constantly improving their design with time. Cranes from the plant are now at work in Moscow, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Khabarovsk, Rostov, Omsk, Kuybyshev, Novosibirsk, Petrozavodsk, Gomel', and many other river ports of the country. The plant recently received an order to build and ship out four cranes for the Kuybyshev GES pro, ject., NEW CRANES RELP BUILD CANAL W- Moscow, Ogonek, 25 Mar 51 The Kharkov Construction-Machine Plant is putting out a new crane of 1,6~ton capacity, models of which are now at work on the Volga-Don canal project.
