REPORTS URANIUM-PROCESSING PLANT
AT BUKHOVO, NEAR SOFIA
According to a dispatch from Istanbul, a uranium-processing plant has
been set up in Bukhovo, a village located about 25 kilometers from Sofia.
The plant separates uranium from raw ore and thus alleviates the transporta-
tion prgblem. The final destination of the ore is not known.
The pits at Bukhovo are the only installations in the Balkans which ex-
ploit uranium deposits. During the German occupation these pits were exploited
only to a limited extent. At present, the plant is said to be heaviiv guarded
by police.
It has been generally confirmed that other uranium deposits have been
found in Bulgaria.
